2 YEARS LATER
APRIL 1907I focused on the stake. I held the horseshoe in my right hand. I threw it and it landed on the stake perfectly. "Oh!" I turned to Sadie with a smile. "Did you see that? Did you see that?" I repeated and she laughed. "Okay, okay, move out the way."
I was always an accurate aim. When I was younger, my shot wasn't much quick, but it was always accurate.
Sadie focused on the stake with the horseshoe in her hand. This was her second pitch. The first wasn't anywhere near close.
"Alright..." Sadie was about to throw the horseshoe but backed down.
"Haha!" I laughed at her. "I thought you played this all the time, cowgirl." I mocked her and she rolled her sleeves up a little. "You're just not lettin' me focus."
"Like hell." I crossed my arms beginning to lean on one leg. "This might take a while, huh?"
"You just settle down." Sadie laughed looking back at me. "I wanna see you talk like this once I beat you."
I cracked my knuckles. "I'd love to see the day."
I watched as Sadie tried to focus. I pretended to yawn. "Aye no, you are so slow."
Sadie flicked her hand. "Just be quiet and watch."
Sadie finally threw the horse shoe. It landed right at the stake. She looked back at me with the cockiest smile. "What're you gonna say now, gunslinger?"
"Oh, whatever." I laughed a little. "I still made it in before you."
"Sure." Sadie laughed. "Imma head into town to check for some bounty's. You coming?"
"Nah." I stretched. "I figure i'll start making dinner."
"You sure?" Sadie asked and I nodded. "Yup. You find us a job with decent money, though." I leaned in for a kiss and she smiled. "I will." We pressed our lips together.
I gave her a quick kiss and punched her shoulder playfully. "Now get out of here. Do something useful."
"Useful?" She laughed and I nodded beginning to walk over to the house. "Yup! Go get me a job worth my fucken time." I looked back at her with a smile and she tipped her hat. "Will do, hun."
I smiled to myself and looked over at our dog who was sleeping by the chicken coup. "Come here, Copper." I whistled. "Let's get you fed, boy."
Copper followed me into the house.
SADIE ADLERS POV
I made my way down to the sheriffs office. I walked in and greeted Sheriff Malloy. "Hey."
"Afternoon." He greeted me.
"You got any bounties for me?" I asked and he pointed over to the bulletin board. "There's one of a fellow down by Strawberry. He's an accountant. Robbed the bank of some money."
"He dangerous?" I took the bounty and Malloy scoffed. "He's an accountant."
I chuckled folding up the poster. "Alright. We'll check it out."
