Sadie and I decided to take that trip on the lake. I figured it was best for us to have some alone time.

Before I left, I made sure to do as much work as I could. I robbed a homestead with Javier, I robbed a stagecoach with Lenny, I went hunting with Charles, then I finally bought Reverend those shoes he so desperately needed. I didn't want to leave without contributing anything.

We stayed by the lake for three days already. After the fourth, we'd have to go back to camp. So I tried to make the best of it. During the trip, we swam at the lake, fished, and even just laid next to each other telling stories.

This morning I woke up before Sadie to make her some coffee.

Sadie came out of the tent and stretched. "That coffee?"

"Yup." I poured coffee into a cup.

"Smells good." Sadie sat down on a log. I approached her. "Good morning." I handed Sadie coffee and she smiled. "Morning."

"How you doing?" I sat down next to her and she looked over at the lake. "Great." She looked over at me. "And you?"

"I'm doing well." I rested my chin on my hand and smiled at her.

Sadie smiled at me too. We were just there smiling at each other. Something about Sadie made me get all giggly. "You're beautiful." Sadie said making me cover my flustered face. "God."

Sadie laughed. "It could be like this all the time, you know." Sadie said and I nodded. "I know."

"We should do this. After we get those O'Driscolls, we should get a house by the lake. We'll swim whenever we want."

The conversation took me back to Margaret. My first love. It was one of the reasons we ended things. She wanted me to leave the gang. She said we could runaway. When she saw I wasn't willing to do it, she questioned how committed I was. Then, Marcus asked to marry her and she saw he was committed. So she chose him over me.

"Sadie, that sounds amazing." I said and she sighed. "But...?"

"But I can't. That's my family back there. I've been running with them since I was fourteen. Plus, Dutch says once we get more money, we'll go somewhere peaceful like the islands."

"The islands?" Sadie sipped her coffee. "You see yourself being an islander?"

"I see myself with you. I see us swimming all day and our feet in the sand all night." I pushed her playfully. "Come on. It'll be fun."

"Sure." She laughed. "But...how would yall even get there?"

"A boat, I guess. Well, Dutch knows. I trust him." I nodded.

Sadie gave me a look. "Okay..." She said. She said it as if I was putting my hopes on some imaginary dream. I didn't want it to bother me though. I took a deep breath. "I'll start making breakfast."

After eating, Sadie and I did some fishing.

"Fishing is so boring." Sadie said and I looked over at her. "Well, we have to get something to eat. Besides, it's calming."

"Calming?" Sadie asked. "This shits making me want to kill somebody."

"Woah," I laughed. "I think you make me the first person to be violent while fishing."

"Yeah, yeah." She said. There was a silence and Sadie cleared her throat. "Can I ask you something?" She asked me and I nodded. "Always."

"So... no one has a problem with you being a homosexual?" Sadie asked and I cleared my throat not expecting that question. "Well...no. Not that I know of. No one really cares. I mean, we're all murderers and thieves. I think what society deems wrong doesn't really matter to anyone. Micah's the only one who expresses his opinion on it, but Micah hates anyone who isn't like him."
