It's 10'oclock on a Friday morning. I'm speeding down i-10 blasting Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe by Kendrick Lamar.
(Author Note: Y'all watched the Johnson Family movie before? Iykyk)
I sang along with the chorus. It was mainly the only lyrics I could sing correctly from the song. I really relate to the words more than I wish I did.
I am a sinner, who's probably gonna sin again
Lord, forgive me
Lord, forgive me for things I don't understand
Sometimes I need to be alone
Bitch don't kill my vibe
Bitch don't kill my vibeWe're mid-May and I'm finally driving back to school. Last semester, I earned my Associate's degree at TCC. The next step was getting my Bachelor's at Creek.
I suffered at home for two weeks because my new apartment wasn't ready when my lease ended. I'm grateful to be anywhere but home. I hate being there more than I hate going to the doctor.
This solo trip is just what I needed to start my journey to a new school. Being alone, blasting music and singing loud as I can is my therapy. Plus, solo trips are perfect for this weather. There are clear skies displaying a beaming Florida sunshine and there's a slight breeze bringing fresh air.
I pulled up to the service plaza to get gas for the last time before I make it to campus. This was my last stop, so before I pumped my gas I decided to go inside to pee.
My childhood ptsd has taught me that I better go to the restroom even if I don't have to.
I went through the automatic doors and instantly felt chills. Damn, it's cold inside. I'm from Florida, so anything below 70 degrees is freezing to me.
All I had on was a white Metallica t-shirt with cut sleeves, some green jeans, a beaded bracelet, and my brown and white Nike blazers.
I feel my phone vibrate and I reach into my pocket to check it. I unlock my phone using my Face ID and check my notifications. Next thing I know, my phone is crushed into my stomach and I feel like collided with a gold statue. My eyes shut on impact.
I stumbled like I had two left feet. I hope nobody saw me. Quickly, I shake my head to gather my senses.
"Shit. I'm so sorry." She says.
Her voice is unfamiliar, but she has a raspy tone. Her scent permeates my nostrils, I could almost taste the peaches. I scan her outfit til I meet her eyes.
