On the walk home, I told Ro all about meeting Amari twice in one day—meeting her at the same party and actually kissing her that same night.

We finally reached the house by the end of the story. Perfect time filler. It's already past midnight and I'm mad hungry after all that dancing and drinking.

"Now that , is crazy. Yall ended up meeting twice, found each other in the dark and yall kissed and danced all night. On some Netflix movie type shit." She continues.

"Yeah." I sigh and plop down on the couch.

"If yall not just tryna fuck, yo ass might just be boo'd up this summer." She locks the front door.

"I'm not tryna move fast like that. She cute and all but I'm just vibing." I say.

I grab a pillow to cover me like blanket and kick up my feet as my shoes dangle off the couch.

"You right. It's the summer. This not the season to be stressed bout nobody daughter. Just do you and be safe."

"Fasho." I say dozing off to sleep. My eyelids were heavy like wet rags.

"Let's order Checker's on DoorDash." She says. I nod in agreement.

"I'll cashapp you." I say.

At least, I'll end the night eating something. If only it was a certain person and not fast food I was gonna end up tasting.

•••

It was only 11am. I was done spot cleaning my room and bathroom, so now I'm gonna light my incense. I had my room door and windows open to let all the cleaning fumes out of the room.

I was dancing to Happy by Surface. You know I had to do a lil one two step. Sometimes I be feeing like an old soul when I'm cleaning.

"Damn. You really cleaned up in here." I peep Ro sniffing around the corner. She was casually dressed like she was heading out.

"Thank you. I would've done it yesterday but I was so done after all that driving." I say.

"I feel you. Where you came from?" She asks.

"St Augustine but I was raised in Oakland Park."

"That's what's up." She says.

"Where you from?" I ask.

"Miami."

"It's nice out there. Especially the beaches." I say.

"It depends on what part you're in. My neighborhood was more inner city and nothing like the beach. Way too crowded. I ran as fast as I could out that bitch. Anywhere past South Florida was my goal for college."

"I feel you. Well, I'm glad you ended up here. You heading out though?" I ask, as I take a seat at my desk to take a break from cleaning.

"Yeah. I'm just going to Space Jam for some wings. I'm finna call right now. You want anything?"

"They only got wings?" I ask.

"Yeah. Pretty much."

"Nah. I'm good. I want Chinese." I reply.

"Hold up, cause Chinese do sound good right now." She said, scratching the back of her head. We both noticed how quickly she changed her answer.

Like a mirror image, a smile grew on our faces. We were trying desperately not to laugh until we just bust out laughing. We really be on the same wave. Having a roommate that might just be my new best friend was not on my college bingo card, but I'm here for it.

"I could always go for Chinese. I know it'll smack." I say.

We ordered the food for pickup and then proceeded to play the most sophisticated game of rock, paper, scissors to decide who would drive. I lost so I had to go pick up the food.

It was all good though cause I felt like getting out the house. She was gonna go the store later to grab us some Arizona iced teas.

I put on a plain white t-shirt, blue NY Knicks sweatpants, a gold watch, gold rings with some blue Air Jordans then left the house.

The weather wasn't too bad outside. It felt nice and warm, but there was no breeze.

I was locking the front door when a heavily slammed car door interrupted my thoughts. I was trying to remember what key was actually the front door key.

My head turns on a swivel. It was a girl with brown shades and a green baseball cap on. Her hair was covered by a creme scarf wrapped up in a low bun but she had two braids dangling loose with beads on the ends. She was wearing a dark green crop top, some brown jeans with her waist beads and bellybutton ring showing, and a wrist full of beads and crystals. Her gold necklaces were overshadowed by a large crystal hanging from a string. I couldn't see her shoes because she was still standing near her car door.

Her head was down, looking at her phone, so I couldn't see any facial features. All I knew was she had dark brown skin.

I wonder if she's a visitor or a resident.

Okay, woah. I'm staring way too hard right now. Back to locking my door. I tried the gold key that looked the biggest size, but I couldn't turn it at all. I cared more about the food not getting cold, so I just grabbed my phone to text Ro so that she can just lock the door herself.

I made my way to my car then I heard a voice say "Hey."

We were the only two outside, to my knowledge, so it must be that girl from over there.

"Excuse me, you stay here?" She asks politely.

I look over at her standing on the sidewalk where I could see her shoes. She had on some white and black Air Jordans that were a cute contrast to her earthy outfit. I really like her style.

"Yeah." I answer.

"Thank God." I read her lips but didn't hear her speak. She was real slick about it cause she was taking off her shades at the same time.

"I um.. I stay next door in 2180, I'm Zendaya. Tonight I'm having a game night with other college students that live in this complex, if you want to join, you're welcome to slide through."

I like how she blinks when she talks. That shit is attractive. Plus she got on long lashes. I almost didn't peep one of her eyes was an sky blue color. I never seen anything like that before in real life. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out if it was real or if she was wearing contacts.

I hope she's a cool person. I just better not get trapped into some straight people party. That's not really my idea of fun.

"Um.. I'll let my roommate know, it's cool if she come too?" I ask.

"Yeah. Of course."

"Bet. What time you starting?" I ask.

"8:30" She says pulling her hat snug on her forehead.

So 9:00. Mhm, I know how my people do.

"Aight. I'll see you later." I say as I open my car door.

"Later."

We both disperse and I'm headed to the food.

I like this college thing so far. There are friendly people and beautiful women everywhere.

I can't complain.
