Kamryn
The moment I stepped on the stairs, I took in a breath and my nostrils were invaded with the smell of fresh breakfast. I could smell a mix of turkey bacon and eggs. Like in the cartoons, I envisioned myself floating down the stairs as I froze in my tracks. This food about to hit, bet.
I descend the steps at an accelerating pace. When I made it to the ground, I looked for the source of the what I'm smelling. A soft smile popped on my face.
I grabbed a water bottle out the pantry before I grabbed a fork.
"Food ready."
"Thank you, this smells good as hell." I approached the plate sitting at the left chair of the island.
"Preciate you." She puts the pan into the sink then proceeded to wash the dish as I went straight to inhaling a piece of bacon.
"Damn bro. I appreciate the compliment, but you can slow down."
"Mhm." I hum. She finishes washing the pan and spatula then shuts off the water. After drying the pan and putting it away, she does the same with the spatula.
"Yo call must've got you worked up? You good?" She asked. I chew the last few bites of bacon preventing me from speaking and clear my mouth before talking.
"I'm good. She just..." I sighed. She looked at me while grabbing her plate of food. Then walks to the pantry for a fork.
"That storm last night knocked out her power so she asking for a favor." I confessed.
"Let me guess. You the favor?" She asked before biting into her bacon.
"She tryna stay here." I mentioned.
"She tryna stay here?" She asked, turning her ear closer to me.
"She tryna huh? She tryna stay here." I say, mocking her.
"Shawty talking about she need somewhere to stay til like Friday." I continued.
"Where her friends at? Why she calling you?" Her left eyebrow wrinkled.
"She don't really got friends from what I know, just a best friend. Even her best friend power out. I guess ain't nobody else if she calling me."
"No wonder she don't wanna talk to you. She don't got no friends. She not friendly." She shook her head. "Yet she's friendly to you. Hm..." She looked at me like she was calculating an equation.
"Hm?" I repeat her tone, insinuating for her to continue.
"Hypothetically, she could be toxic and that's why she has no friends. Or she could just could be a one bestie, one bae, type of girl." I crossed my arms.
"Nahhh. Cause she don't give toxic, but I'm definitely not her girl so it's gotta be something else. She said she wanna pay me, but I told her I'd ask you first so whatchu think? I'm tripping cause I'm okay with it."
"And where she gone sleep? In yo bed?" She smirked.
"Nah, she not my girl. She can sleep right on the couch." I point my thumb at the couch while took a bite of my warm, cheesy omelette and felt the heat spread on my tongue. The cheese was nice enough to not be overbearing but just enough to make it extra savory. I'm so happy I have a roommate that can cook almost as good as me. I definitely got her beat though.
"Oh, that's how you feel? I'm not saying no, but if you trust her then I can consider a yes." She bites into her eggs.
"Okay." I started crushing my bacon then adding it to my eggs. She was looking at my plate then blurted out a question.
