Scarlet had been asleep late one night, when she heard her phone ringing. A small groan left her lips, as she rolled over and grabbed the phone. She hated not having a smartphone still, but she was getting use to the old phones from the nineties. She still couldn't believe so much time had passed since she got stuck in the past, and she still wondered if time passed the same for her brothers.
"Hello?" Her voice sounded hoarse, but she had just woken up.
"Scar?" She heard, and the voice sounded broken,"I need you to come to the hospital."
"Why? What happened? Vince, are you okay?" She asked, wide awake now compared to barely a moment ago.
"It's Sky." He replied, and immediately she jumped up from the bed.
"I'm on my way." She said, before hanging up the phone.
She wasn't wearing any pants, and if it wasn't for the fact that she was trying to put her wallet in her pocket, she never would've put pants on. Quickly, Scarlet pulled on some pants, a bra, a new shirt, and a pair of sandals. She pulled her hair into a messy bun on top of her head, and grabbed a piece of gum — deciding that brushing her teeth would take too much time.
The girl didn't waste any time getting in her car and halling ass up to the hospital. She ran to the nurse's desk and asked where Skylar's room was, then she took off running down the hall. When she got to the right floor, she spotted Vince and Sharise talking to a nurse. She stopped and let them finish talking, before she jogged over and wrapped her arms around Vince.
"God, Scar, I'm so glad you're here," Vince murmured,"She needs to see you."
"She's been asking about you." Sharise whispered, her voice soft, as if she was afraid that the girl hated her for the divorce.
"Is she awake?" Scarlet asked the parents, and the two nodded.
"She's scared," Vince said,"and honestly, I am, too."
"I'm going to run to the gift shop," Scarlet commented,"Don't tell her I'm here. I'll surprise her."
The parents nodded, and as quick as she could, Scarlet ran down to the gift shop and bought a stuffed monkey, yellow flowers, and a pretty yellow flower balloon. Skylar loved yellow flowers. As soon as she had the stuff, she ran back up to Skylar's room. She quietly knocked on the door, causing the three to look over.
"Auntie Scar!" Skylar cried, causing Scarlet's heart to clench.
"Oh, my baby," Scarlet cooed, as she walked over and pressed a kiss to Skylar's head,"I'm so sorry you don't feel well. I got you some stuff to make you feel better."
Scarlet handed Skylar the monkey, and the little girl wrapped her arms around the stuffed animal. Scarlet placed the flowers on her table, and tied the balloon around one of the handles on Skylar's bed. Moments later, the doctor came by and knocked on the door to get their attention.
"Go, I'll stay with her." Scarlet told the parents, and the two nodded.
"Auntie Scar," Skylar murmured,"Don't let them poke me with needles anymore please. It hurts."
"Oh, sweetheart," Scarlet felt tears swell in her eyes,"I promise they won't do it unless it's absolutely necessary. They just want to get you better, baby. It's not going to keep happening, soon they'll stop, okay?" She replied, as she ran her fingers through the little girl's hair.
Scarlet looked up and seen Sharise crying, and her heart fell to her stomach. When Sharise collected herself, she came back into the room and motioned for Scarlet to go out and talk to Vince. She also motioned to herself and the phone, letting the girl know she was going to be making a call while she was out of the room.
"Vince?" Scarlet murmured, as she shut the glass door behind her,"What'd he say?"
"S-she has cancer," Vince said,"T-they want to get a sample of the tumor. They think it's bad."
"Oh god," Scarlet felt tears fall from her eyes,"I'm so sorry, V. I'm so sorry." She cried, as she wrapped her arms around the man.
Vince buried his face in her neck and cried. He was supposed to be strong, but in that moment he felt weak. How was he supposed to stay strong? His little girl had cancer, and soon they'd find out if it was curable or not.
When the doctor came to bring Skylar for surgery to get a sample of the tumor, the doctor let her take the monkey with her. Scarlet kept her arms around Vince, as Sharise stood with her parents. Vince had no one else but Scarlet, and he was thankful as hell for this girl.
"Are you all family?" The doctor asked, as he walked into the room a couple of hours later.
"Yes." Sharise answered, giving the man a nod.
"We're going to try and remove Skylar's tumor, but I cannot promise that it will fix anything, I'm sorry." The doctor said, making Scarlet's eyes water.
Tears fell from everyone's eyes in the room as the doctor left. Scarlet held on to Vince tighter, knowing he needed the reassurance and support more than she did. She knew that he felt alone, and she wasn't going to let him feel that way. She was going to be his support, and she was going to be there for him and Skylar every step of the way.
Scarlet wondered if the guys would've supported Vince in a moment like this, or if they'd be too busy with their lives and the band. They were so far gone at times, she almost believed that they didn't plan on living to see thirty — other than Mick. She almost considered calling the guys to support Vince, but she didn't want to put anymore pressure and sadness on Vince than he was all ready feeling...
