Scarlet had been home alone, while Vince had been out drinking. Sometimes he just had to leave his house, but Scarlet understood. She sometimes wanted to run away, too, but she had to keep herself from doing so. She had to be there for Vince, even if it hurt for her to do so.
When Scarlet was alone in the house, she would often try to sleep or distract herself. If she didn't, her mind would go crazy, or the room would feel like it was closing in on her. She didn't even like leaving her own room when Vince wasn't at the house. She felt like she was forever going to feel scared to be alone after everything that happened to her.
Scarlet held a book in her hands that she was hoping would distract her; Little Women. Honestly, she didn't really like the book, but she didn't completely hate it either. The book kept her distracted for the most part, and that was really all that mattered to her.
While she was reading, she heard footsteps coming down the hall. She didn't bother putting the book down, considering she figured it was Vince, since he often came home after getting close to blackout drunk at the bar. It was just something he did that Scarlet tried to look past when she could.
"Scar?" She heard, causing her to look up confused, but she scowled as soon as she seen who was at the door,"Can we talk?"
"I don't know," She retorted,"Are you clean, or are you going to bite my head off again?"
"I'm clean." He replied, and she simply nodded.
Nikki came into the room and sat down on the only chair in the room, which was a fluffy black chair near her vanity. Scarlet and Nikki sat in an awkward silence, but finally Nikki spoke up.
"After you left, I was out of it — for days I think," He sighed,"I don't want to say it was you that made me change, because I'm not sure. I remember looking at myself in the mirror, and I hated what I seen. I couldn't keep doing it, I could tell I hit rock bottom, y'know?" He looked over at her with a frown,"I had hurt so many people, especially the people closest to me. I hurt Tommy, I hurt Vince, I hurt Mick, and I hurt you. I couldn't barely look at myself, but eventually I realized that I couldn't do it on my own. I got clean, and once I was clean, I went to the guys and apologized."
"Is the band back together?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Yeah," Nikki smiled slightly,"but I think we need to get Vince straightened out a bit. He needs a little more time to heal." He answered, and Scarlet nodded.
"I've been trying to help him, but I'm hurting myself. I can't help him, if I can barely help myself." She replied, causing him to nod as well.
"I'm sorry, Scar," He commented,"I'm sorry for what I did to you, and what I said to you. I would never had said that to you, if I was in my right mind. If I could take it all back completely, I would. I really never meant to hurt you," He reached forward and placed his hand on top of hers,"And I'm sorry about Skylar, Scar. I know it hurts, and I'll be here when you need me."
"I told Vince the truth about me," She murmured,"but it was more indirectly at first. S-Skylar had asked me tell her a story, and I told her about my brothers. I showed her a picture of them, and I told her she could dream about them, and that they'd love her and her dad as much as I do," Scarlet felt tears swell in her eyes,"I told her she'd get to meet them one day, Nikki. I-I knew what was happening to her, but I still told her she'd get to meet them," She actually began crying,"There's a chance I'll never see them again, and I told her she'd get to meet them. I'm such a horrible fucking person, Nikki."
"No you're not," Nikki said, as he quickly moved to sit next to her and wrap his arms around her,"You were treating her like nothing was wrong. You were giving her the little hope she was needing to feel safe and calm in her last moments. You were being the godmother that she needed, and that's all that matters. One day you'll see her again, and your brothers will get to meet her, and everything will be just fine. She's just waiting for you, and watching over you, making sure you live the life she knows you deserve."
"God, Nikki," Scarlet murmured,"I just can't believe she's gone."
"It'll be okay," Nikki said, squeezing her lightly,"You'll see her again one day, your brothers, too, I know you will."
Scarlet stayed in Nikki's arms, feeling the comfort she had needed for so long. It was only a little bit of time before they heard Vince come home, and Scarlet watched as he passed by her room. He had been looking at some type of papers in his hand, so he didn't look up as he walked passed the bedroom.
"Those papers are putting him back as lead singer." Nikki commented, and Scarlet nodded slightly.
"He really needed this, Nikki." She said, giving him a small smile.
"I think you both needed it." He replied, causing her to shrug, and she smiled slightly as well.
Scarlet felt a little more calm than she had been feeling for quite some time. Knowing that Nikki was clean made her feel like weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She would always miss Skylar, and until she seen them again, she'd miss her brothers, but she knew that she had people by her side. It seemed she just needed the support of Nikki to prove she wasn't alone, having to help Vince while she was hurting herself...
