TRIGGER WARNING
depictions of self-harm, mentions of suicide

eden woke up with a massive headache the next morning.

"ugh." she grumbled. "never drinking again."

she slipped out of bed and when her feet touched the floor, she could feel the pain in her ankle.

"fuuuuckkkk." she groaned.

she got up and limped over to her door, not caring about her appearance or anything else.

she didn't even grab her phone which was filled with messages from lily and surprisingly, jace.

she limped downstairs slowly and went into the kitchen. that's where she saw jeremiah and her father sitting at the table.

she looked between them.

"what's going on?" she questioned.

"eden, why don't you sit so we can all talk." adam said.

"first you need to tell me what the hell this is." she replied.

"sit."

she huffed and sat down.

"i know you're missing your mom and your missing steve—."

"don't say his name." she interrupted.

adam cleared his throat. "the point is, i know you're missing a lot of people, but that doesn't mean you can be out of control."

"meaning what, exactly?" she raised her eyebrows.

adam pulled out a bag of weed, a pre-roll, and eden's cart that was attached to her pen.

"i'm talking about this, and the mess you caused at that party last night." adam said.

she shook her head, then looked over to jeremiah.

"you." she pointed. "you sold me out, didn't you?"

"edes—."

"no. don't. you're a rat." she spat.

"don't zero in on your brother, eden, he's going through a hard time too." adam scolded.

"he's not going through anything different than the rest of us and we get through it!" she exclaimed.

"oh yeah?" jeremiah raised his eyebrows.

he grabbed her arm and lifted up her sleeve to reveal her cuts. "then what's that?"

she gasped and pulled her arm away. "fuck you, jeremiah. fuck you."

"eden." adam muttered.

"no." she shook her head.

tears were forming in her eyes.

she stood up and pushed her chair in.

"i'm not doing this. fuck you both."

she then turned around and went to hobble up the stairs but adam spoke up.

"i want you to be in grief counseling, eden. i'm setting you up with a therapist." adam shared.

"what? no. i'm not seeing some shrink." she shook her head as she turned around.

"yes, you are. your first appointment is tomorrow at 10 am. i expect you to be up and ready." adam demanded.

"this is bullshit."

she then hobbled up the stairs and slammed her door shut.

she plopped down on the bed and unlocked her phone, not even looking at the texts that she was sent.

she then went to the call button and pressed on the contact, letting the phone ring.

"hey, honey." susannah's perky voice said.

"hey, mom. how did the doctor's go?" eden asked.

"it went okay." susannah replied. "shouldn't you be in class?"

"i'm in study hall right now so i figured i'd call you to see how you were doing and how the appointment went." eden responded.

"oh, okay. just make sure you do get to class!" susannah exclaimed.

eden let out a chuckle. "don't worry, mom, i will. so..."

susannah sighed. "it went alright, sweetie, but it's not for you to worry about, okay?"

susannah clearly didn't want to talk about it, so eden let it go.

"okay."

"now tell me about you. how is your day going?" susannah asked.

"it's going okay. jere and i talked to conrad on our way to school then i talked to bells and of course steven."

eden smiled when she mentioned steven.

"then i took my ap psych exam, which i think i aced, but i got my ap gov test back and didn't do so well." eden explained.

"that's okay, hon, you'll get it next time. just study what you had trouble on and you'll do better next time." susannah advised.

she was always so good when it came to comforting her kids and making eden feel good. eden was grateful for her mother.

"but congrats on your psych exam! i'm so proud of you. one step closer to being a great psychologist." susannah encouraged.

eden smiled and let out a small laugh.

"thanks, mom. you're the best." eden replied.

"of course, my darling. now yet back to doing work and study for ap gov."

"okay, i will."

"i love you, my sweet flower."

"i love you more, mom."

"and i love you most. bye, now."

"bye, mom."

"the number you are trying to reach is no longer in service."

then, eden heard the three beeps.

sighing, she went to her messages and decided to message the number just in case it was still blue like she hoped.

she typed a long message to susannah's number and sent it.

it turned green.

it turned green.

she then got a message reply saying the number was no longer in service.

she shook her head.

no

why

how

what. the. fuck.

she then went to call conrad, not remembering their little fight from last night, but he didn't pick up.

little did she know, her brother wasn't at school anymore and was on his way to cousins beach.

she shook her head and ran her hands through her hair.

she stood up and covered her ears with her hands and shook her head.

she wasn't going to do it.

she wasn't.

nope

no

but she did anyway.

and as the blood dripped to the floor she sunk down to her knees and lied down, curled up in a ball.

she could do it.

she could end it all.

but what was the point? she already felt dead.
