conrad's facial expression changed.

"eden."

she went over to him and he wrapped her into a hug.

"are you okay? the last time we talked you said you—." he paused. "is that why you're wearing steven's hoodie."

eden froze. she didn't even realize it was steven's.

she looked down.

it was a princeston one.

she looked back up and sighed. "conrad, that's not what matters right now. what matters is you and what you just said."

"so, this is why you haven't answered any of our phone calls or texts?" jeremiah asked.

"jere, jere. did you hear what i just said? we're going to lose this house. mom's house." conrad clarified.

"why would your dad sell this house?" belly asked.

"i mean, we have to stop him, right?" eden raised her eyebrows.

"dad isn't selling the house. aunt julia is." conrad shared.

"susannah's sister?" belly questioned.

"half sister. apparently the house belonged to both of them and then when mom...now aunt julia owns the whole thing, so..." conrad trailed off.

"okay, we'll just call dad and figure something out." jeremiah said.

"you think i haven't already done that?" conrad replied. "he says legally, the house is hers."

"okay, then he'll buy it." jeremiah shrugged.

eden scoffed. "yeah, he's not gonna do that."

"he doesn't have the money to buy it!" conrad exclaimed.

"and he's an asshole." eden added.

"he's not an asshole." jeremiah shook his head.

"yes he is." eden nodded.

"you're only saying that because conrad says it all the time." jeremiah pointed out.

"are you serious? you think i just go along with everything he says?" eden raised her eyebrows.

"well..." jeremiah murmured.

"unbelievable." eden shook her head. "i have my own reasons to think dad's an asshole. he didn't want me, jere. he hates me. he wishes i was a boy and regrets having me, but you didn't know that, did you?"

jeremiah looked down. "no, i didn't know that."

"he said it on multiple occasions to mom. and she always stuck up for me." eden said.

"guys, enough." belly interjected.

"between brown and the medical bills and the—."

"yeah, i know how much the medical bills cost because i was there." jeremiah reminded.

"that's not fair, jere." eden shook her head.
