The Southern Air Temple had structures made from rocks, there was fog everywhere. Phoenix had always wanted to visit the southern air temple, she used to read books about it and felt bad for those who were murdered from the fire nation, but her mother found the book and burned it In front of her face.

Appa landed on the hard ground, Phoenix got off from the white creature and looked around the place, everything was destroyed. The houses had holes in it, some buildings fell on the ground from the impact. Phoenix felt bad for Aang, his friends and family all died in such a horrible way.  While Phoenix walked, a loud crunch was heard from underneath her boots. She took her foot off and saw a white skeletal hand  "Aang?" She called out from him, he looked down at her shoes and tears started to fall from his brown eyes.

"It can't be.." Aang sobbed as he saw the dead skeleton. He went over to a large building afterwards, hoping his old friend would be alive. In the building there were solid rocks everywhere with moss growing all over it, meaning the Air Temple has been untouched in forever.

The three followed shortly behind Aang, silence filled the place with the only sound being the wind whistling. Phoenix gently put her hand on the vines that grew upon the walls, the rough feeling nearly cut her fingertips. "Gyatso" Aang spoke quietly in disbelief. Phoenix took her hand off from the wall to look at what  Aang was doing, he was staring at a black skeleton with a large beaded necklace. The jaw of the skeleton was crooked, the brown cloth he had on was ripped with giant holes in it.

Aang's shoulder went up and down as he started to breath heavy, Phoenix watched in silence. The back of Aang's had glowed up in a light shade of blue "Aang?" Phoenix tried to get his attention, but it didn't work. The ground shook when Aang started to lift up from the floor, air surrounded him. "what's happening? What is he doing?!" Sokka shouted.

Sokka grabbed Katara's hand and ran out of the open, Phoenix ran behind them since she didn't want to get hurt. The big building got destroyed due to Aang's powerful self, rock flew everywhere. While Phoenix was running, a large rock landed near her foot, almost hitting her. The wind got more powerful, making it easy to fall down the rocks. Phoenix grabbed a large strong rock and held onto it as the wind blew, Sokka and Katara were hanging on a root that came out from the soil.

Eventually, Aang fell from the air and his blue arrow turned back to normal. Phoenix let go of the rock and went over to the sadden boy, he held Katara in a hug and cried. "we should sit down somewhere" Phoenix suggested, Aang let go of Katara and wiped his tears "okay" He went to a bench.

"so not to be rude but... what was that?" Sokka questioned "I don't know.... There's so much I don't know." His eyes narrowed to the floor "the monks are gone and i'm all alone." Katara bent down on her knee so she could look in Aang's eyes "you know..the thing about losing everything is that that's when you learn how strong you really are. It's when you learn to fight" Katara finished, getting a nod from Phoenix.

"they made the ultimate sacrifice for me" Aang looked down in his hands, he had the beaded necklace his friend had before he sadly died. "I need to make sure their deaths weren't in vain. I need to follow through on what they wanted me to do. Complete my training and master all of the other bending skills so I can bring balance back to the world." Aang spoke "oh is that all?" Sokka asked him , making Aang look at him. "this was my home, and now it's gone. It's only after we've lost something that we realize how much it means to us." Aang started to speak "and how we do anything to get it back," Phoenix stared at the boy while he talked, she knew what it felt like to loose something very important to you, it makes you feel pain and numbness.

"I don't know where this will all lead, and I don't know if I have what it takes... but one thing I do know is I'm the avatar." He stood up with the large stick in his hand "And this is just the beginning." Phoenix sighed "so where are we heading now?" Phoenix asked him, his attention was now on her. "The Kyoshi island is only a few hours from here." He got out a journal that he stole from Zuko, it had all sorts of information about the past Avatars. "According to this, Avatar Kyoshi was the fiercest of warriors and the master of what they call the Avatar State. Maybe something in her shrine will help me control my power before..." "you kill someone?" Sokka interrupted Aang, Phoenix rolled her eyes at him.

Aang walked away from the two siblings, Phoenix decided to follow him "Have you ever heard of Kyoshi before?" Phoenix asked him, just for conversation. "A little bit of stuff, what about you?" Aang looked up at her "Oh yeah, a lot of stuff. I always inspired to be like her but here I am." She let out a chuckle "well why can't you be like her? You can still train to fight like Kyoshi did." Avatar told her "You know, back at the fire nation I was the weakest person there in my age range?" Avatar tilted his head with a confused expression "but how? I saw the way you fought Zuko" Phoenix looked down at the small boy "Zuko trained me to master my element." Aang's eyes gone wide, he was surprised Zuko would help someone "He was nice back then.. I don't know what happened to him." Phoenix shrugged her shoulder with a frown. Aang hummed and was going to say something until Katara's brown bag started to shuffle.

"what is that?" Phoenix started at the bag "I don't know.." Aang bent to get a closer look "Katara, something's wrong with your bag" Katara ran over with Sokka, they were both confused. The bag started to run away when Aang tried to open it, luckily Katara grabbed it in time. She dumped her bag on the floor, multiple papers falling out and a weird furry creature. The creature had long ears that were similar to bunnies, white and gray body with huge green eyes. The creature had bread in it's mouth "hey! That's our food!" Sokka's loud voice scared it away and he landed on the tree above.

"what is that thing?" Phoenix asked Aang "A winged lemur!" Aang replied, happiness in his voice "the sky used to be filled with them" Aang used his powers to fly up to the tree where the winged lemur was  "he's adorable" Phoenix said as she stared at him "the lemur or aang?" Sokka questioned, making Phoenix turn around to give him a weird look "The lemur." She answered him.

"you ready to go?" Phoenix yelled loudly so Aang could here "there's something I have to do first." Aang flew down from the tree, he wanted to talk to Gyatso one last time before leaving to start his new journey on being the avatar.
