Slightest Hint of Emotion

I rush into my class and make it a little after the bell rings that ends break. I walk over to my table, and sit down in my normal spot. I look at the board to see what our teacher has written down for us to do today.

1. Finish notes from last week if you haven't already. (Slideshow on our online classroom)
2. Start today's assignment. If you do not finish in class, do it at home and turn it in tomorrow.

Okay, so I just need a few things for today's class. I open my book bag and take out my pencil case and my environmental science notebook and textbook and place them on the desk in front of me. I open my notebook to a blank page and write my name, the period, and the date on the top right hand corner of the page, and then place my pen down on top of my notebook.

My attention is drawn to the door when I see Link walk in. He immediately locks eyes with me, and a small smile appears on his face... making me start to smile as well. He walks over to his seat next to me and sits down on his stool. He takes out a crumpled piece of paper, a pencil, and his textbook, and places them in front of him. He then drops his backpack on the ground next to him.

"How can you do work when your paper is so wrinkled?" I ask slightly amused by his unprofessional behavior.

"What do you mean? It's just paper." He says with a chuckle.

"But it's crinkled... how does that not bother you?" I ask.

"As long as I have something to do my work on, I'm fine." He says shrugging his shoulders. "How can you do your work with all this stuff on your desk?" He asks.

"I need all this stuff to complete my work." I say slightly confused by his question.

"You need a whole notebook and your pencil case to complete the assignment?" He asks with another chuckle.

"Well, yes. My notebook keeps all my work for this class together, along with my binder for this class, and my penc-"

"Wait. You have a binder just for this class?" He asks with his eyebrows raised.

"Yes... you don't?" I ask in surprise. I thought everyone did that?

"No of course not. That's takes up so much room in your bag."

"Well, yes. It does take up quite a bit of room... but it doesn't nearly take up as much room as my English binder." I say brushing a strand of hair behind my ear.

"You have a binder for English too?" He asks in shock.

"I have a binder for every class." I say as I pick up my bag and set it on my lap. I turn my body towards him and open my bag. "See. I have a notebook and binder for all 4 of my classes." I say feeling slightly proud of my organization.

"Well... you're definitely organized. I can't imagine how clean your room must be." He says with a laugh.

"I try to keep my room fairly clean." I say quietly.

"Hm. I'd like to see it sometime. Maybe it'll make me want to clean my room." He says, with yet another chuckle. He'd like to see my room sometime? What do I say to that? What does that even mean? No one has ever told me that before.

"Um, thank y-"

"Hey Link! How's it going? Did you have a nice weekend?" Karson says very loudly as he walks up to our table.

"It was alright... how about yours?" Link responds, sounding slightly annoyed.

"It was pretty good. Got to hangout with a few friends." Karson says coolly.

"Sounds great." Link says without the slightest hint of emotion in his voice. When Link finishes talking, one of Karson's friends walks around me to get to his seat, when he knocks my books and pens of the desk. "Dude! What the fuck!" Link yells turning towards the guy.
