"Gael," I told him, "Repeat after me."
He slightly nodded.
Then I added, "Well not directly."
"So... your daughter want to tell you..." He started, then trailed off, waiting for me.
"Tell them I'm sorry for the pain that I've caused them." I gagged, cause they caused me more pain.
"She's sorry for the pain that she had caused you."
"But they're also not completely innocent for what happened."
"But she wants you to know that you are not completely innocent for what happened."
My mother exploded, "What do you mean by that? I thought you're here to show a shred of respect! How dare you!" She spat out.
He put his hand up in defence, "I'm just quoting her directly ma'am." Yeah, literally.
"Continue..." My father ordered.
I opened my mouth again, hesitantly, "Tell them... that they did not help at all."
"You didn't help her at all-"
"And that my problems do rooted from them."
"You caused her problems. From the start."
If ghosts could cry, tears would be shredding from me. I don't want to attack them more, but they should not live in such vain, thinking that they are better.
See, my memories are coming bits by bits, and my family had a beliefs of how we are just greater than everyone else. Befriending Heather and Hudson made me realized that some people have to work to be great, not just born into it.
"The audacity! In my own house!" My father gasped.
"Tell them that I really loved them."
"Look sir, she really loved you."
"But they have to know that they stopped showing love back, it became one-sided" I noticed my parents are fuming at this point.
Gael looked like he ain't saying that. But he did anyway, "But not enough. Like it was one sided. You expected too much of her." He's making it worse but I don't care.
"They ignored me."
"You ignored her."
"Our perfect world disappeared as soon as I started school."
"Things changed with you guys once she started school."
"She went to school to learn, not to make connections. It should help her focus," My mother said, crossing her arms.
"Clearly not..." Gael mumbled under his breath.
"Did she really told you to just come here and make us feel worst after he death? Who are you even?" My father asked. "How do you know my daughter?"
It got silent. The truth is, I wanted to tell them sorry, but I also wanted them to be aware of what happened. And learn from it. If they have future kid or kids to carry out their legacy, I don't want the same thing to happen.
I am aware that both my parents went through the same thing, so it's more of generational trauma, but... they should break it. Be better. Try to at least.
"He's a friend from school," Hudson took over and told them, kinda forgot he's there actually.
Gael wasn't about to tell them that I'm just some random ghost he see.
"Yeah... we... weren't that close," He said, adding on.
"Then why did she picked you as the messenger?" My mother asked.
"He's a trustworthy person. And he's not that... significant so people wouldn't expect him. But he does care," Hudson said. Making up bullshits as he goes, nice. Maybe he's not too bad. Wait he was never too bad, he's literally perfect.
It's my fault our relationship failed.
My parents fixed their attention at him now, "So if she didn't pick you... why are you here?"
"... My sister couldn't make it today" Couldn't make it my ass. She's probably too scared and wanted to throw him under the bus.
"But we wanted to give you our sorry as her friends and never noticed it."
Hudson, I had made out with both of you, don't... nuh uh. Don't give me the 'friend' answer. We're literally more than friends.
"Really, we are. I am personally really sorry. It was partly my fault. I shouldn't have push her over her edge. I could've been a better friend." He sounded like he really meant it.
"Or not at all. Friends are distraction," My father hissed coldly. What is their problem?
I remember this exact behaviour when I get a less than 95% in my mark.
"You're a neurologist... sir. You know that human do thrive and want support from other. We all want support and nice people in our life. You have a wife, didn't you marry her because you like her."
"We want good genetics. We both agree on that. Our child will have our brain."
Gael and Hudson were both flabbergasted, their jaws dropped to the floor.
"They clearly did not get what they want." All three of us are probably thinking the exact same thing.
My parents didn't react to that one bit.
"Shouldn't you marry someone because you love them unconditionally and wants to build a future with them? Ready to commit?" Hudson asked.
My parents gave them a dry laugh as a reaction. "Have you never been in a relationship before?"
What's going on now huh?????
"I'm literally Dolores's ex-boyfriend." The laughter stopped as they stared at him with cold eyes.
"I agree with him. Isn't that what marriage is all about?" Gael backed him up.
"I guess this kind of explains why they're like this all the time," I mumbled, floating away and move behind the couch the guys are sitting on.
My parents did some more dry laughing. My mother said, "Oh that is great! I haven't got a good laugh in a while. No. You look like your parents are on a verge of a divorce I do not think you should be saying anything." She gritted her teeth at Hudson.
Ummm... what the fuck? Did they only get their sense of humour when I die? Why are they acting like children?
"Well they're filling in for one as we speak- but that's not the point. We're talking about Apr- Dolores," Gael said, they didn't listen to him.
"Darling, the thing is, we're smart." Blunt okay. "Smart people can't live a full and fulfill life. Take Issac Newton, he was so different and unlikable."
"Are you saying smart people can't be happy?" Hudson came to the assumption of so. Make sense considering no one in my family life is happy.
Could it be? I am a genius? Big brain? Intelligence?
"I'm just saying, we workout the logical part of our brain so much, the emotional and passionate part just doesn't work as well anymore," My father explained.
"That's why we wanted Dolores to take piano. It could help her have a more balanced life than us. We wanted her to be happy."
I listened to their every words. They do care secretly. Like passive aggressively.
