Here you are. Blueberry Academy.

A pathway of white stretches over this endless body of water. It spills into a wide open court, built to completion with rows of bleachers and seats that match the piercing blue-and-white aesthetic, and in the midst of it all is a similarly colored Pokémon battle court. The space, from what you can see, is built into one dome that sits atop the waters. Beyond it must be the rest of the school.

"How did they manage this?" you ask and crack a smile. Avery brushes by you, tilting her chin up at the sight of what she calls the academy lobby. Hands on her hips, she gives a half-shrug and faces you.

"Pokémon, duh." She goes to massage her long hair securely back behind her shoulders. "Like I said, there's sooo much more to see. There's this place called the Terarium, and—"

As you're watching Avery's eyes light up like Christmas bulbs and she comes inches away from sounding like a total nerd — again, someone else filters into your view. Your eyes are immediately drawn away from your friend. Rushing up to your travel group, you suppose you could call yourselves, is a young-looking girl with a clear pep in her step. She springs forward, smiling all the while. Her petite frame is clad in uniform, navy blue pants clinging to her legs beneath a pearly-white top that doesn't look too plain with the red tie draped down the collar. On top of that, she wears a long woolen coat, a much lighter pink than her meticulously short hair.

Avery's still going on about the school and what it has to offer. You haven't heard a word she said for a hot ten seconds.

"—there's even a whole new league here, including the Champion! They're all students, don't worry. Should be easy for you to take down. Oh, and—"

You lift your hand in front of her face. "Can you just... chill for a sec? Someone's coming."

"Eh?" She turns around. Her eyes find the pink-haired student bounding over to you, and Avery's first instinct is to make a scene. This time with an excited squeal that nearly sounds like a Seel being impaled. "I-It's...!!"

Before she can nerd out again, you clap your hand over her face like you're holding chloroform to her nose. "Stop it. Stop." You resort to pulling her into you, holding her in a tight grip to keep her from waking the Gods with her high-pitched mouse squeaks. She squirms, even starts biting down on your fingers, but both of you cut it out when the Blueberry student breaks her stride. She stands before you now, breathless.

"Welcome, um, Paldeans?" Her hazel eyes flick up to the sky for a quick thought

"Welcome, um, Paldeans?" Her hazel eyes flick up to the sky for a quick thought. "Is that what I'm supposed to call you? Wait, no, I meant Uva students!"

You release an ecstatic Avery from your grip and outstretch a hand to the pink-haired girl. If one thing's for certain, she'll think you're much more mature than your nerd friend over there. She takes your hand.

"Nice to meet you," you say. "I'm not actually a student like her and the others. But my name's—"

The girl cuts you off, says your name for you. She had that one locked and loaded. And she said it in such a way that makes you think she'd been yearning to say it right to your face for an eternity. When the word leaves her mouth, her eyes sparkle, her lips spread into an undeniably sweet smile. You've already shaken her hand, but she won't let go of you. An oddly uncomfortable warmth seeps into the flesh of your palm. And the way she's staring at you — more of a long gaze as if she were peering into your soul, her innocent eyes reading everything about you down to your core. You blink slowly, surprisingly finding yourself to be bothered.
