Atlanta, Georgia.
The aftermath of Jabari's final return.
Prom night cont.

"How the fuck did this slide! How did this happen!" James bellowed at both Harris and Ari who sat in their chairs, watching him destroy his office. "That was our leverage! Jabari dying was our one fucking step ahead! Which one of you knew!"

Ari and Harris sat there, watching James lose his shit. Harris shook his head, "We swore he was dead, Jamie. We literally saw it."

"Nigga we did it." Ari grumbled, poking his cheek with his tongue. He adjusted his mask and shrugged, "I don't know... how he survived that."

"It doesn't add up. We always get the job done, not once have we slipped up, James." Harris stressed. "This isn't like us, we aren't sloppy."

James calmed down as he paced back and forth, muttering to himself. "What the fuck am I to do now? It's not like I don't have a plan, I have so fucking many that I can't choose! This wasn't supposed to happen!"

"Well what do you want us to do about this shit then, James? Throwing a tantrum ain't gon' solve the problem." Ari said calmly, blinking in boredom.

Harris honestly and truly thought they had killed Jabari once and for all. While everyone was so focused on the family, Jabari was out here reminding people of the person he used to be. The person he was before he lost his own brother and fell out with Reese. He was so fucking close to James and they couldn't have that.

Jabari was a problem, a problem they needed to get rid of. Sometimes James and Harris found themselves sighing of relief at the thought of Ares deciding to take his own life. They never thought that someone like him would go out that way but they were glad it happened nonetheless.

They didn't even want to imagine the trouble they'd all be in if Ares was still alive. James wasn't scared of him, he wasn't scared of anyone, but he knew that if Ares was alive, he would've killed James a long time ago.

Ari... Ari on the other hand, he knew Jabari lived. He didn't know how Harris didn't but he peeped the vest under Jabari's hoodie as soon as his eyes laid on him. He knew Jabari was going to survive and instead of saying anything, instead of going back and finishing the job, Ari spared him of all things.

Not only did Ari know, but he even watched Jabari afterwards, he checked in on him every so often, just to see what he's up to and just to see if he needed to regret his decision.

So far he didn't.

With watching, eventually came Ari leaving little messages for him along the way – messages that ultimately helped Jabari in his mission of finding out the truth and getting his revenge – up until the week he decided to reconnect with the family. Jabari knew Ari spared him, he just didn't know why, and he didn't know if he wanted to truly question it.

James ran his hands down his face and grabbed one of the only chairs he didn't decide to smash into smithereens. He plopped down and stared Ari in the eyes. "You're right. I'll come up with something. Can you leave the room please? I need to talk to Harris."

Ari got up swiftly and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him. He stood there and took his phone out of his pocket, not doing anything with it as he held it in his hand. He steadied his breathing and unlocked it, dialing a number but not pressing the call button.
