Happy voices echoed around you as you impatiently waited for Luke in Starbucks. He was later than usual. You hoped nothing was wrong; he had sounded quite nervous when he called and asked to meet you an hour ago.
You had practically finished your coffee by the time he walked in. He gave you an apologetic glance as he paid for his coffee. He was probably with her, you thought.
"Sorry I'm so late, [Y/N]. Gina wouldn't stop talking."
Your suspicions were deemed correct. Of course he was with her.
"It's okay," you lied.
"So, uh, I kinda need to talk to you about some stuff." He didn't look excited. He actually looked like he might pass out at any time.
"Go on then," you said.
"Well... Gina got really annoyed at me for being friends with you, and, uh, she said that if we didn't stop being friends then she was gonna break up with me."
Your heart sank. You hated that girl.
"So you're here to tell me that we can't be friends anymore." You whispered. You stood up quickly and rushed out, despite Luke shouting your name. You could not let him see you cry.
---
'A-Ashton?" You cried into the phone.
'[Y/N]? What's wrong?' He sounded alarmed.
'Can I c-come over?' You stammered.
'Of course you can. What's wrong?'
'I'll tell you w-when I get there. B-be there soon.'
---
Your hair had been flattened from the rain and your mascara had run down your cheeks in perfect lines. Ashton pulled you in for a hug the second he saw you.
"Babe, what's wrong?" He asked again. You sniffled and attempted to tell him, but your voice was muffled against his chest.
He ushered you into the kitchen, where he sat you on one of the stools and handed you a can of coke.
"Tell me everything."
And so you did. He already knew about your feelings towards Luke, so at least you didn't have to explain why this was hurting you so bad.
"Babe... Did he actually say that he had chosen her?" He said carefully after thinking for a few minutes.
"N-no, but you should've seen the look on his face. He was about to. I just didn't want to hear it."
Ashton nodded.
"None of us like Gina though. Luke knows that. Even the fam hate her, and they are pretty respectful of girlfriends most of the time."
"But he likes her. Surely that's all that matters to him."
Ashton nodded again. You wished you could tell what he was thinking.
"I've got an idea," Ashton grinned. Your faced creased in confusion, so he began to explain.
"Maybe if we could make Luke go back to liking you..."
"What do you mean 'go back to liking' me?" You interrupted. Ashton froze.
"Well- uh- nothing... I just..." He sighed in defeat. "Luke used to like you. Well I'm pretty sure it was love, but he would never admit to that. And then one day he came home and told us he had a new girlfriend, and none of us knew what was going on, especially since she is nothing like you."
"So you never found out what happened?"
"No, not really."
Why had he never told you? You were so in love with him. How could he not see that?
"Anyway, so if we can get him back to that, then he would break up with her for sure." Ashton mused. He always complained to you about how much he and the other boys hated her. This was a great opportunity for him.
"But what's gonna make him realise that he's better with me?" You wondered.
"Why don't you tell him how you feel?"
You shook your head immediately. You couldn't do that.
"No. No way. I couldn't. No. No."
"Okay, okay! Not that then."
Your phone began to buzz. Luke was calling you.
"Answer!" Ashton ordered you. You shook your head again. You had no idea what to say to him. As soon as it stopped ringing, Ashton's phone began to play barbie girl. He grinned.
"That's Luke's ringtone." He told you.

'Hello?' He answered.
'Yeah, she's here. How'd you know?'
'Oh, right. I guess.'
'Yeah, she told me.'
'Really?'
'Good.'
'I'll try, mate, but she's pretty broken up.'
'No worries. In a bit.'

"What did he say? How did he know I was here?" You asked the second he hung up.
"He said that he figured you'd be here since I'm nearly as close to you as he his."
"What else?"
"He wants to talk to you, he said he didn't get to finish what he was telling you."
"But what if I don't want to hear the rest?"
"Babe, c'mon. I'll walk you to his."
"It's raining out. Can't we drive?"
"It's like a five minute walk. We'll be fine."

---

"I don't want to go in, Ash."
"You'll be fine, I promise. If he hurts you I'll beat him up. You've always got me babe." He smiled comfortingly at you and gave you a quick hug.
You shook your head.
"I can't do this."
He sighed frustratedly and opened Luke's door, pushing you in without a word. He silently waved goodbye to you before slamming the door in your face.
"[Y/N]?" You heard Luke say from behind you.
You slowly turned to him, a faint smile gracing your lips.
"[Y/N] how could you think that I would choose Gina over you? You're my best friend." Luke said suddenly, striding over and tightly gripping your shoulders.
"I-I..." You stammered, unsure of what to say.
"There is nobody that I would choose over you, okay? You're worth a million of her."
Words weren't coming to you right now. He had rendered you speechless.
"Earlier on I called you to meet me because I was planning on telling you how I felt about you, but you didn't let me finish. I met Gina before you so that I could break up with her and tell her that I would never and could never give you up, but she kept arguing with me." He paused for a second before continuing, "but I love you, [Y/N], I really do."
You grabbed his shirt and pulled him into you, his lips colliding with yours.
You had found a way to say exactly what you needed to, even if it didn't involve talking.
"I love you too, Luke," you mumbled onto his lips after a few minutes. He smiled and kept kissing you, his arms wrapping tightly around your waist, as if he was afraid to let you go.
