Ashton: you hung back in the doorway when you heard your son whisper your name. You peeked round the corner and saw him on your laptop, on Skype. You knew you should've turned it off before you went to make dinner. Ashton's face was smiling on the screen, however your little boy looked heartbroken. "Daddy I really miss you. I know you said to be strong for mummy so I called you and didn't tell her, but I miss you lots."
Ashton's smile had faded. He looked as devastated as you felt. You were almost crying. "I miss you too, little dude. I can't wait to see you." Ashton sighed.
"Mummy misses you as well. I heard her crying to Aunty [Y/BF/N]." You couldn't believe he had heard that - you'd thought he had been watching TV.
"One more week and I'm home, dude. And we'll go play football like you like."
"Will you teach me to play drums daddy? You look really happy when you do that." Ashton's face lit up. "That would make me so happy. Of course we can."

Calum: a small hand patted your shoulder, startling you awake. "Mummy?" Your little boy said quietly. "What's wrong honey? Is everything okay?" You asked sleepily.
"Can I get in your bed mummy? There's monsters in my cupboard."
You shuffled over and pulled him into your bed. "I thought daddy told you how to get rid of those monsters?" You asked him. He looked like he was about to cry.
"B-but he said that I have to be really brave. And I can't be brave tonight because I feel really sad." He mumbled. You were quick to wipe his tears. "Baby what's wrong? Don't cry, I'm here." You said, hugging him comfortingly. "I'm sad because I miss daddy, so I can't be brave and fight the monsters away," he cried gently. This was awful. You swallowed the knot in your throat, forcing yourself to be strong for your little boy.
"You are so so brave, little man. You've been keeping the monsters away from both of us since daddy left! See how good you are?" You choked, struggling to speak. "I miss him too baby. Don't worry, he'll be back soon, I promise."

Luke: your daughters eyes scanned the crowd to find you, her little face lighting up when she found you smiling back at her. She waved ecstatically, but her smile soon fell. You hoped she was okay. This was her first ever talent competition - she was singing. You wished Luke could be here to see her, he would be so proud of his little princess.
The second she came on stage you began recording on your phone. Her beautiful little voice effortlessly sung Beside You, her fathers song. You couldn't stop your tears from falling - you were so proud of her.
The crowd roared with applause when she finished. Everybody seemed shocked that such a big voice had come from such a little, shy girl. She was so much like Luke.
She ran into your arms, immediately asking how she did. You praised her and cuddled her tightly. After a moment she pulled back and stared up at you with wide eyes.
"Has daddy forgotten about me mummy? Why isn't he here?" Your heart split into a million tiny pieces, and you bit back tears.
"Of course not! Daddy wanted to be here so badly, but he had to play tonight baby. He's really sad that he's not here."
"I really miss him, mummy." She choked, her eyes welling up. She pushed her face back into your waist, sobbing erratically.
"Oh baby, don't cry. He'll be back soon, I promise. Don't be sad, baby. He's gonna be home really really soon."

Michael: you had always been a light sleeper, so when a muffled sob drifted into your room, you were instantly awake and darting through to your daughters room in fear that she was hurt.
"Baby?" You said quietly, "why are you crying?" She snuffled and turned to you. Your heart rate had slowed down a little now that you knew she was safe. It was late; you were surprised she was awake - she was only 6 after all. You got into her little bed next to her and she cuddled into you.
"I miss d-daddy, mummy. I miss him lots." She whimpered. It almost broke your heart.
"I know baby, I know. But we'll see him soon, I promise. Just think, it's not long till we get to visit him! You'll get to see him on stage again! And you get to miss school!" You said, attempting to cheer her up. She giggled a little bit and wiped her eyes. "Will he bring me on stage again?"
"He might do. He was telling me how much he loves doing that. He's excited to see you."
Eventually she fell to sleep, her little head resting on you gently. Seeing her like this broke your heart - you were so glad she would get to see her daddy again soon.
