Ashton: the blonde boy sitting across from you noticeably tenses as he absorbs your question. It's difficult to decipher what he's thinking - his face is uncharacteristically unreadable.
"Isn't it obvious?" He says, surprising you a little. His voice is harsh and his steely eyes don't move away from yours while he waits for an answer. Nervously, you bite your bottom lip and cast your eyes to the floor. His gaze is too intense and too cold for you to handle.
"Ashton..." you mumble, hoping he will realise that he's scaring you a little. You look back towards him, but his body is still as rigid as before, and the ice is still frozen in his eyes. Desperate to see some kind of emotion from him, you grab his hand. His hazel eyes drop to your entwined fingers and immediately the ice melts. Ashton sighs and squeezes your fingers.
"It should be me." He whispers, his voice cracking. "I want to be your boyfriend, [Y/N]. I'm in love with you, and I always have been."
Your mouth falls open slightly, your shock obvious. Ashton releases a dry laugh. "Well," he shrugs, "what were you expecting?"
"I... I don't know." You stammer, your voice barely a whisper.
When you don't say anything else, Ashton speaks up again. "Uh, could you maybe... could you respond to that, somehow?" He asks, each word shaking. You swallow back the knot in your throat and nod.
"Well," you breathe, "here goes..."

Calum: taking a deep breath, you rap your knuckles on the door and pray that Calum decides to answer.
"I know it's you, [Y/N]," he says through the wood a few minutes later.
"Calum... I need to tell you something."
You can almost see the look on Calum's face. He would be wearing the same expression he always wore when he needed to make a decision. A few more minutes pass and you hear a sigh from in the apartment, and then the door swings open. You wander in and follow Calum to the sofa, where you perch yourself awkwardly next to him.
"Cal..." you breathe, the familiar sensation of nerves washing over you.
"It's it's about him could you just spit it out please because I don't-"
"I like you, Calum," you blurt, interrupting him.
Calum's expression shifts instantly to confusion, and you can tell he's at a loss for words. "You... like me?" He repeats, clearly hoping for some clarification.
"I just realised," you sigh, dropping your head into your hands, "I only just realised."
"I was sat out in the hallway practically having a panic attack over the idea of losing you when i started to wonder if the reason I was so scared of losing you was only because of our friendship. And I realised that it's not. You're my lifeline, Calum - there would be no me without you. Do you really think that sounds like normal friendship? And god I know I should have noticed it before, but I've been as blind to my own feelings as I have been to yours."
Calum stares at you with wide eyes. You can practically see your words whizzing round his head as he attempts to make sense of them.
"You like me," he says quietly, almost to himself. His awe-stricken expression soon changes to worry and floods with nerves.
"B-but you have a boyfriend. So... so what now?"

Luke: you bite your tongue, half wishing you hadn't said anything. You stare back into Luke's blue eyes for what feels like eternity before you speak again.
"I- I-" you stammer, realising the hole you've dug for yourself. Why did you admit your feelings to him? You find yourself wanting to turn and run away, but your feet are glued to the spot. You're paralysed with nerves.
Luke waits patiently, but after a while you can tell that his patience is wearing thin.
"I don't know." You finally manage, exhaling deeply as soon as you've gotten the words out. Your chest feels tight and your mind is spinning, but somehow your managing to stay on two feet. You feel as if you're about to collapse with nerves.
"You don't know?" Luke repeats, and instantly you realise that's not the answer you wanted to give. Of course you know. It's Luke you're talking about - there was no way your feelings for him were ever going away, no matter how much you tried to make them. But, that's the answer that you've given now, so all you can do is wait to see Luke's response.
He shrugs and chuckles, but the sound is hollow and dry. It makes your skin crawl - the noise sounded nothing at all like Luke. It was lifeless and mean - two things that Luke definitely was not.
He starts walking away again, leaving you staring after him. He stops when he's a few steps away and turns back to you.
"When you figure it out, [Y/N], let me know."

Michael: the pizza guy arrives two minutes after you do, but neither of you are really in the mood to eat, so Michael shoves it in the kitchen to be warmed up later.
"So," he says bluntly, connecting your eyes, "what do we need to talk about?"
"You know exactly what we need to talk about." You state, not letting his cold attitude scare you away. You know that's his intention - if he can scare you away then he won't feel as bad for abandoning you.
Michael shrugs. You glare at him, and after a few minutes of eye contact his facade drops.
"I'm sorry, okay?" He sighs, flopping down onto the sofa. "I just don't know what to say."
You nod, understanding him completely.
"It's okay, Mike," you shrug, offering him a smile. "Anyway," you continue, "I've got some stuff I need to say to you." He beckons for you to go on, so you take a deep breath and start your speech.
"I'm mad at you," you begin, "but not for the reasons you're probably thinking." You wait a few minutes before you speak again, attempting to get your thoughts in order. "I'm mad at you because you've made me open a door that I did everything to close. I told myself that we couldn't be together because we were too close. I repressed any feelings I had towards you because I didn't think there was a chance for us. And now you've admitted that you like me, and all of these feelings have come out and made a mess of my head. So, I'm mad at you, Michael Clifford. I'm mad at you because I love you."
