"So talk talk talk, tell me what I want want want, if I don't look into your eyes, it's almost like a perfect lie," Calum sang, winking at [Y/N] through the glass. I clenched my jaw and adjusted the volume. Calum sang for a few more minutes before he put his hand up, telling me to shut the sound off.
"[Y/N], do you wanna come sing?" He asked her, a huge grin on his face. I flipped a switch so that he would be able to hear her when she agreed to go into the recording studio.
Luke chuckled from next to me as we watched them being cute together. She could not sing at all, but somehow that just made me like her more. She was so f-ing cute and I hated it.
I felt Luke's eyes on me, so I turned my head to him. He was frowning.
"What?" I asked snappily. He shot me a look and flipped the sound switch so that Calum and [Y/N] couldn't hear us.
"If you wanna keep your thing a secret then you should really stop looking at her like that." He told me. Michael snorted from in the corner and I spun round to glare at him. He shrugged and continued to play on his phone.
"I can't help it." I argued, my voice weak.
"It's just a crush, Ash. You'll get over it."
Michael snorted again.
"Do you have something to say or..?" I snapped.
"This isn't exactly a crush, is it? He's in love with her. He has been since school."
Luke raised his eyebrows, "really?"
I nodded, my cheeks burning.
"And Calum doesn't know?"
"None of you were supposed to know. I told Mike forever ago, but other than that... It was supposed to be a secret. You weren't supposed to figure it out."
"Sorry mate."
"It's nothing personal, I just didn't wanna put you in an awkward position, that's all."
He nodded understandingly.
"Cal wouldn't have done this if he knew."
"I know. I should have told him. I should have told all of you."
"You should have told her." Michael interjected. My body sagged. Mike was right, I should have told her. But I couldn't. My body betrayed me whenever she was around - my palms began to sweat and my heart raced. I could only imagine how bad I would be if I attempted to admit my feelings to her. I would end up a blushing, stuttering mess.
The door of the booth swung open, interrupting our conversation. [Y/N] walked out, a smile on her lips. My heart skipped a beat.
"I've just gotta make a phone call. I'll be back in five." She explained, and left the room.
"Calum would understand. You should tell him how you feel about her. You love her, Ash."
"I ca-"
"What?"
I cringed at the harsh tone of Calum's voice and glanced at the door to the booth. [Y/N] hadn't closed it properly, so the sound isolation hadn't worked. Calum had just heard everything Luke had said.
I stood up hastily, knocking my chair over in the process. Calum was stood directly in front of me.
"I'm sorry, Calum. I- I've liked her for years. I love her, I can't help it."
The anger melted from his eyes.
"You should have told me. I wouldn't have even thought of asking her out if I knew."
I didn't know what to say to him. I half expected him to hit me.
"Cal I don't want to feel like this. I don't want to love her. It hurts, and I can't stand it, but I do. I'm sorry."
He put his hand on my shoulder and smiled at me. "Ashton, I'm gonna sort this out. We're good man, honestly."
A blast of air filled the room, signalling [Y/N]'s arrival. Her hair had been whipped out of place by the wind and her cheeks were flushed, but she'd never looked more beautiful. I ached to press her against the wall and kiss her until my mouth was numb.
"[Y/N], come for a walk with me. I need to go to the shop." Calum said, grabbing her hand. She nodded and they left, leaving me completely clueless as to what just happened.
I turned to Michael, but he didn't seem to know either.
"I think I'm just gonna go home." I sighed after a few minutes. I didn't feel like myself.

---

My phone buzzing under my pillow woke me up. I wearily glanced at the time, the brightness stinging my eyes. It was only 10.
"Hello?" I answered groggily.
"Ash? It's me. Are you in?"
[Y/N]. I forgot how to breathe for a second.
"Yeah. Why?"
"I've been knocking at your door for a while."
"I've been asleep, sorry. I'll come let you in."
Stay calm, stay calm.

The second I opened the door [Y/N] was in my arms. I wasn't sure what to do with myself, but I soon hugged her back.
"What's wrong?" I whispered gently.
"Me and Calum broke up."
I stiffened. Is this what he meant by sorting things out?
We moved into my bedroom without saying anything. She groaned and laid down on the bed, then grabbed my hand and pulled me down next to her. She nestled her head on my chest and entwined our legs.
My heart was beating out of my chest. This shouldn't feel so right.
"Are you alright?" I asked her. Her feelings were my priority.
"Yeah. Kinda."
"You sure?"
"I- I think so. Calum said you had something to tell me."
My tongue felt heavy. Oh god.
"Ashton?" She mumbled, and propped herself up on an elbow so she could look at me.
"I-I-" I spluttered. Heat flooded my face. She gently rested her hand on my cheek, trying to calm me down.
I took a deep breath. I could do this.
"I really, really like you. I have since- since school. I- I love you."
[Y/N]'s eyes widened and she grinned.
"You do?"
I nodded.
She leaned forward and kissed me softly, pulling away before I was ready. Kissing her was better than I could have ever imagined.
"I do too," she whispered, and I pulled her lips back onto mine, allowing myself to become completely engulfed in her.
