The next morning, Lan Minghui noticed with amusement that Lan Biyun's face was still flushed with embarrassment.

"After all those years, you still like Jiang-gongzi after all, don't you?" she laughed.

"So what if I do? You - You're still thinking 24/7 about Xue Yang!"

"Speaking of Xue Yang, what do we do about him?"

Lan Biyun rolled her eyes. "Don't come to me for love advice! If I had ideas, I wouldn't still be struggling about what to say to Jiang-gongzi."

"No, no, that's not what I mean! What are we going to do to stop him from entering an endless cycle of revenge?"

"You're seriously still worried about that?" Lan Biyun scoffed. "You already saved him; I highly doubt that that will happen."

Lan Minghui nodded, but as she walked to the Lanshi, her mind continued to prickle with anxious thoughts.

***************

"Wei Wuxian!" Lan Qiren called out angrily.

Wei Wuxian stood up innocently, smiling almost a little foolishly. Because he chose to pay attention to the bird Nie Huaisang had somehow snuck into class instead of listening to Lan Qiren speak, he was called on to answer several questions. Wei Wuxian's answers were deemed acceptable until his mention of the implied use of demonic cultivation. That's when the respected sect elder of the Gusu Lan Clan snatched up the nearest book on his desk and threw it at Wei Wuxian's head, shocking everyone (except Wei Xingsi, Lan Biyun, Lan Minghui, and Nie Yilian) with his surprising actions.

Wei Wuxian was sent to the library pavilion to copy down the rules of the Gusu Lan Clan as the consequences of his actions. Soon afterwards, Lan Qiren sent Lan Wangji to make sure that Wei Wuxian was actually doing as he was told and not messing around. Nothing out of the ordinary happened afterwards, and the disciples were left to sit through another few hours in stifling boredom.

***************

"That Wei-gongzi sure is a handful," remarked Lan Meiqi, a disciple of the Gusu Lan Clan and a friend of Lan Biyun and Lan Minghui.

"Can't argue with that," Lan Yuxin, another one of their friends, chimed in. "Lan-er-gongzi's got a difficult task from Lan-xiansheng this time."

"Who knows? Maybe Wangji needs that piece of chaos and mischief in his life," Lan Minghui suggested inadvertently. "Xiongzhang agrees, too."

Lan Biyun started at her words. "Right! Xiongzhang said to meet him at the Hanshi after class. Meiqi, Yuxin, we'll see you later!"

After exchanging quick goodbyes with their friends, the two of them hurried to the Hanshi as quickly as they could without running.

Lan Xichen stood by the door of his room, waiting patiently for them. "Let's wait for Wangji before I start explaining why I called you here."

Not even a second later, Lan Wangji walked over, furious. His face was expressionless as usual, but his siblings could easily detect the storm clouds of unhappiness drifting above his head.

"Wangji, what happened?" Lan Xichen asked.

Oh. THAT happened in the library pavilion, right? Wei-gongzi's book...

"Wei Ying... He..." Lan Wangji took a deep breath, his ears flushing red. "After he finished copying the rules, he..." Lan Wangji's voice became too quiet to hear.

It's Wei Ying to you already?

"I can't hear you," Lan Biyun said.

"He showed me a homoerotic book," Lan Wangji mumbled in one breath, looking anywhere but the eyes of his siblings. His ears were so red that they couldn't help but worry about him.

Whatever Lan Xichen had been expecting his brother to say, that wasn't it. Stunned and rendered speechless for a second, there was a sharp, deafening silence that crashed upon the four siblings like raindrops from the unbearably heavy showers of early spring.

Lan Minghui broke the silence awkwardly by trying (and failing) to express some sympathy for her brother. "Oh. Um... Wei-gongzi really is..."

Lan Wangji glared at her, as if daring her to continue speaking. Lan Xichen, who had regained control over himself, coughed slightly and said, "Anyways, there are water demons in Biling Lake. Gather up a few disciples as quickly as you can to get ready to set off for Caiyi Town."

***************

On their way to the gate of the Cloud Recesses, the four of them ran into Wei Xingsi, Wei Wuxian, and Jiang Cheng, as well as the Wen siblings and Nie twins. Amongst the group of people, all of them except for Nie Huaisang expressed interest in joining, and after Lan Xichen offered the proposal, they joined the Lan disciples.

Lan Minghui noticed Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen drifting slightly further away from the rest of the group, talking quietly (most likely about Wei Wuxian). Finding Lan Yuxin and Lan Meiqi among the throng of disciples, Lan Minghui introduced them to Nie Yilian and Wei Xingsi. With the more outgoing personalities of Nie Yilian and Wei Xingsi, the six girls exchanged lighthearted conversations covering various topics.

But of course, Su She just had to disturb them.

"Do the young mistresses of the Gusu Lan Clan really think that they're too good for the fellow disciples of their sect and desire the company of Nie and Jiang disciples, the latter a daughter of a servant, no less? Though I should remember, your parents defected from their sects too," he sneered.

"Su Minshan, why must you constantly bother yourself with the events of the lives of others? We aren't forbidden to form friendships with other sects; we can spend time with who we want to. People should be judged for who they are, not for their standing in life or the actions or status of their parents," Lan Minghui answered as politely as she could. She would feel better if she could push him into the lake, though.

"Wei-guniang and Nie-guniang are nice people who we enjoy being around. Disturbing female cultivators is prohibited; do not be haughty and complacent; do not insult people; be careful with your words; be respectful; do not criticize other people; no slandering; and do not disregard laws and rules." Lan Biyun, barely looking at him, spat out all the rules Su She went against at him before glaring at him and walking closer to the front of the line.

***************

"Biyun, Minghui, did Minshan bother you again?" Lan Xichen asked as they got onto their boats.

"He did, but it's okay. I'm honestly used to it now," Lan Minghui dismissed. Lan Biyun nodded in agreement.

"Su Minshan constantly causes trouble for Minghui and Biyun. He will kneel to reflect when we go back," Lan Wangji decided.

Wei Wuxian, who had heard him speak, let out an overdramatic gasp. "Lan Zhan! You are caring after all!"

The Twin Jades had strongly contrasting reactions to his words. The older laughed softly, his eyes darting between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, as if figuring out their compatibility, while the younger just hissed, "They're my sisters!"
