Janet
I watched as Gabriel initiated the video call with Maria, a scientist and ally who had proven invaluable in our past endeavors. Maria's face appeared on the screen, I offered a small wave, acknowledging her presence."Hey, Maria," I greeted warmly, though her concern for Aiden lingered in the back of my mind.
"Hello, everyone," Maria replied, her voice echoing through the room. "It's good to see you all." Gabriel wasted no time in getting to the heart of the matter. "Maria, we need your help," he began, his tone serious. "Something's come up, and we could use your expertise." Maria's brow furrowed in curiosity. "What's going on?"
"We need you to come to Nashville," Gabriel explained, his expression grave. "There's something we need to discuss in person." However, Maria's response was not what we had hoped for. She hesitated, her features clouded with a frown. "I'm sorry, Gabriel," she said softly. "I can't." my heart shrunk at Maria's refusal.
I exchanged a worried glance with Gabriel, realizing that whatever was preventing Maria from coming to Nashville must be serious. "Why not?" Gabriel pressed, his voice tinged with urgency. Maria took a deep breath, her gaze distant. "I... I can't go back there," she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Not after what happened with the Mother of Hell. I'm still... traumatized by the experience." my stomach churned as i listened to Maria's words. The Mother of Hell had been a formidable adversary, and the scars from our previous encounter ran deep. "We understand," Gabriel said gently, his tone filled with empathy. "But we really need your help." Maria's expression softened, and i could see the conflict playing out in her eyes. Finally, she nodded reluctantly. "Okay," she said, her voice resigned. "I'll come to Nashville. But I can't promise anything." Relief washed over me as Maria agreed to help, though I knew our troubles were far from over. With Maria's expertise, they might just have a fighting chance against whatever darkness is in my brother's life.
I was just about to serve dinner when Luke entered the house, his weary expression mirroring my own feelings of apprehension.
"Dinner's ready," i said, forcing a smile as i gestured towards the dining table. "I hope you're hungry." Luke offered me a tired smile in return, his shoulders slumping with exhaustion. "Thanks, Janet," he replied, gratitude evident in his voice. "I appreciate it." As he settled into a chair at the table with the others, i noticed the heaviness in his gaze.
I knew he had been dealing with his own set of challenges at work, and the news he brought with him only added to my growing sense of worry. "Is everything okay?" i asked, my voice laced with concern. Luke sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair. "Not really," he admitted, his expression troubled.
"Quinn's been placed in a mental institution until further notice. They don't think he's fit to stand trial." my heart ached at the mention of Quinn. I knew he was struggling, trapped in a nightmare, not of his own making. But I also knew that the authorities were unlikely to understand the true nature of his condition. "I'm sorry," he said softly, reaching out to squeeze my hand in a gesture of comfort. But our conversation was abruptly interrupted by a grim announcement from Gabriel. "There's been another death," he said, his voice grim. "A body was found in an alleyway in Nashville. Bitemarks and blood loss." my blood ran cold at Gabriel's words, my mind immediately jumping to the likely culprit. "Sebastian," i whispered, i voice barely above a murmur. Gabriel nodded grimly, confirming my fears. "It had to be him," he agreed, his expression darkening with anger. "We need to stop him before he hurts anyone else."
