This is basically me practicing angst.

She watched him move on.
Her name was Carrie. She was beautiful, with medium length hair with highlights and deep green eyes. She was a witch that Sam had met at work, and they hit it off. They became close friends, always hanging out after his shifts at work. Mika didn't miss the glimmer in Carrie's eyes when she looked at Sam, the way he blushed when she'd smile at him.
She watched them grow closer.
More nights than not, Sam was leaving the mansion to spend nights with Carrie. Mika wanted to be happy for him, wanted to forget the idiotic feelings she had, but she couldn't. So, she put on an act, smiling when he talked about his plans for his now girlfriend. When it got too much, she'd hide in her room and cry to the point of puking. Sometimes Matthew or Damien would comfort her, but there wasn't much they could do.
She watched them fight.
After a few months, those visits to Carrie's house began ending in him coming home angry, grumbling about various arguments. She'd try to comfort him afterwards, but as their fights grew more common, he spoke to Mika less. He was never cold to her, but the silent treatment hurt her more than any insult could.
She watched them make up.
Every time he'd come home angry, the next day he'd go back like nothing happened. They'd become the happiest couple you'd seen, and Mika had to remind herself it wasn't Carrie nor Sam's fault that she fell for him. She began to conveniently be busy during family dinners that Carrie would be at, saying she was busy with the company. James never tried to stop the lie, smiling sympathetically at her each time. She drowned herself in her father's paperwork and hours at her own job to forget about him, how happy he looked. She hated how angry his happiness with Carrie made her.
She watched them end it.
Sam didn't seem as distraught as she expected when Carrie cheated, but he was never open with his emotions. A part of her, a dark and jealous part, almost felt glad that the relationship ended. She knew it was selfish, but it was a little late to do anything about it. He still avoided her, but he seemed to be coming around. Mika tried not to read into it, knowing she'd hurt her own feelings. She couldn't stop herself from wondering why he smiled back at her, if he was truly angry at her all this time. Maybe she'd get a chance now?
He watched her move on.
His name was Andrew. He had messy light brown hair and chestnut brown eyes. He was the perfect balance between charming and awkward, balancing Mika out well. He looked at her like she was his dream come true, and Sam never missed the way Mika would blush and grin at him with that goofy smile he loved so much.
He watched them grow closer.
Mika began leaving the house more often, dressed up beautifully for the reservations Andrew would get them. Sam wanted to be happy for her, wanted to forget the ridiculous feelings he had. But he couldn't, so he put on an act. He went back to being cold, distant like when he'd dated Carrie. He noticed the sadness in her eyes, but his apologies didn't mean much after he'd brushed her off the second, the third, the fourth time.
He watched them fight.
Mika always tried to keep the details of her relationship with Andrew private, but it didn't take much time to know something was wrong. She was sleeping less, working more. She'd come into the mansion on the verge of tears, and Damien always made it to her before Sam could. Seeing Mika so distraught made his skin scrawl, and there were days he wanted to rip Andrew's head off of his body, but instead he sat by and watched from the sidelines.
He watched them make up.
After weeks of them not seeing each other, Mika would let him back into her life. Sam had to fight a jealous snarl every time Andrew looked at her like some kind of trophy during family dinners. Sam began to conveniently get called into work, and Erik would always give him a sympathetic smile. He drowned himself in work, and when it got too much, he'd burn trails in the woods, knocking down any tree that dared to get in his way.
He watched them end it.
Mika didn't seem angry when she found out Andrew cheated on her, and Sam briefly wondered why it pissed him off more than it did her. She seemed to become herself again though, working less and sleeping more. Sam found himself surprised every time she flashed him that grin, the one he loved so much, unable to stop himself from grinning back. He tried not to read into it too much, but he still would find himself asking himself why she still smiled at him like that after he'd been horrible to her for months. Maybe he'd get a chance now?
