"Crap.. I'll never be a runner at this rate. It's their most important rule, and I just broke it," I said, frightened at the thought.

I vaguely remember what Alby had said,
If the maze doesn't kill you, then we will.

"Might as well look for something useful here. If I find the exit, maybe I can bribe them to spare my life."
I ran my fingers across the wall, feeling the cold, rough surface.

Why does this all feel so familiar?

Go left.

There it was again. Except it was a guy's voice now. His voice was soft. Maybe I could communicate back to him if I tried hard enough.

Hey!-

I attempted to communicate with him, which only caused a headache. But I knew I couldn't give up.

Hey! Do you know how much trouble you just caused me?

I fell on the floor, rubbing my temples in pain.

Hurry mei, I don't have much time, turn left, then right-

Woah woah, slow down. I can't walk that fast.

You have to run.

Wait, wait? What do you mean-

I have to go, they're coming.
I can only help you by shutting them off at this point.
I know you can remember the way. you helped them build it, Good luck, mei.

Wait! You can just leave me!-

Silence.
Like reaching for an object in the dark, only to find emptiness.

I got up from the floor and dusted myself off. I had to find something. But what did he mean by them? Who's coming?..

I need to trust my gut.

I jogged inside, straying further and further from the comfort of the doors.

Something took over my body, I felt like I knew where to go, and what turns to take. But I had no idea what I was looking for.

As I navigated the maze, flashes of memories flooded my mind—working with people in white coats to construct this very maze. But why couldn't I remember more?

Suddenly, I heard the sound of metal crashing on the floor echoing from a close distance. Panic surged through me.

What was coming? Is this what that guy was telling me to run from?
