It had been eight months since she found out she was with a child. When she hit four moons, Viserys announced that she was with a child. Many people were happy and excited for another royal baby, but many were also worried for the young queen's health.
"Morning, Your Grace," Carla, a maid, said, entering Lilly's chambers.
"Good morning. Can you please pick out a dress suitable for outside? I wish to walk in the gardens this morning," Lilly asked as she drank some water.
"Of course, my queen," the maid replied before finding a dress and helping her get ready for the day. She was finishing the final touches on her hair when knocks were heard on the door.
"Who is it?" She called out, gently rubbing her stomach as she felt the baby give her a rough kick.
"Princess Rhaenyra and Lady Alicent wish to come in, My Queen," her sworn guard, Ser Thorin, yelled through the door.
"Oh, do let them in; thank you, Ser," she ordered, and she thanked the guards, smiling at him as he opened the door to let the two older girls in.
"Good morning; you are looking gorgeous today," she greeted them.
"Thank you, sister; you are glowing." Alicent said she was happy her sister was happy about the child and that her sister would have some happiness as she is stuck in a loveless marriage with a horrible man.
"What can I do for you both?" she asked.
"We were wondering if you wanted to do something today," Rhaenyra said, sitting on a couch-like bench.
"Oh, I would love to. I was just going to go out to the gardens and eat some breakfast. Join me?"
"That seems like a wonderful idea," Rhaenyra and Alicent agreed, both of their hearts warming up at the pure excitement on the young queen's face.
Viserys had made it his personal mission to make her miserable, always making sure she's busy so she can't rest or spend time with her sister and friends. Many don't know, but she does. It's his way of punishing her for not wanting to bed him while being 9 months pregnant; as he couldn't hit it, it would risk "his child."
But there were perks to the work he gave her. She was able to improve King's Landing; she bought land in her name, Lillina Hightower, and she lets farmers use the land to raise livestock. When butchering time comes, she pays him and makes sure the people who didn't have much or anything were fed and healthy.
"Well, then let's go," Alicent said, helping Lilly stand up and walking with her and Rhaenyra through the castle and out to the gardens, where they asked a maid to get their breakfast food.
"How have you been, sister? I have hardly seen you this last month." Alicent said it was an innocent question, but it made Lilly tense up slightly.
"The king has kept me quite busy, sister. I apologize for my absence." Lilly said, feeling angry at herself, that she had made her sister angry.
"Oh no, I didn't mean it like that; I was just asking." Alicent was confused at her sister's reaction to the question.
"I know it is alright, really," Lilly said.
The three girls laughed, ate, and talked before Lilly started to feel uncomfortable. There was pain and discomfort in her stomach, making her wince, before she felt her legs and dress become wet, making her realize she was going into labor.
"Are you alright, Lilly?" Rhaenyra asked, hearing her wince as a look of fear came onto her face.
"I think the baby is coming. I need to get to my chambers," Lilly said, wincing as she felt a contraction.
"Oh dear, oh seven hells, let go up, you get come one," both older girls said as they stood up, helping her up and beginning to walk to the castle. The girls got her to a birthing chamber and settled her onto the bed.
"I am going to get the maester and alert my father. Ok, Alicent is right here with you." Rhaenyra said she was nervous because her mother died giving birth, as did her grandmother. She didn't want to lose another person she cared for because of childbirth.
"You maid, what is your name?" Rhaenyra yelled as she saw a maid in the hall.
"I am Denise Princess," the maid said, bowing.
"Well, Denise, the queen is in labor. Go find the king and tell him now." Rhaenyra ordered the maid, making her rush off as Rhaenyra rushed to find the maester.
"Maester Mellos, the queen, has started her labor." Rhaenyra informed him, making him stand up, grab his bag, and follow the princess after getting a few midwives.
"Your Grace, my lords, the Queen has begun her labors." Denise, the maid, informed the council.
"Okay," Viserys said, not caring, making the council slightly angry. The queen is a kind, gentle girl going through the horrors of childbirth, and here he is sitting on his ass without a care, as well as her father.
"Is she well as of now?" Lord Strong asked.
"I am not sure the princess just told me to inform the king, my lord," she said nervously, making him nod in understanding.
"very well"
----------------------------------------------
"Just breathe, sister, just breathe," Alicent said, wiping Lilly's forehead as she cried out in pain. She had been in labor for nearly thirteen hours and was tired and miserable.
"I can't do this. I am not ready." Lilly cried out as another contraction happened.
"You can, yes, you can. You are so strong. Just think, when this is over, you get to have the sweet bundle of joy in your arms." Rhaenyra encouraged her, holding her right hand.
"Im not ready, Rhaenyra. I'm not ready to be a mother; what if I can't protect them from him?" Lilly sobbed, breaking the hearts of everyone in the room.
"You can, my dear sister. You can do it. You will be a wonderful mother. I know it." Alicent encouraged seeing Rhaenyra's stunned look, as she knew he was her father.
"I can see the head, my queen. Just one more push," the midwife encouraged her.
"Ahhhhhhhhh!" she screamed before falling back onto the bed, laughing in relief when she heard the scream of a baby.
"A son, your grace, praise the gods," Maester Mellos said, handing the baby to the midwife on his left as he began making sure the queen was healthy.
"Is he healthy? Is he alright?" Lilly asked, breathing heavily, feeling exhausted, and in a ton of pain.
"Kicking like a goat," she assured the young queen, handing her the crying baby, who instantly went quite once placed in his mother's arms.
"Oh hi, my sweet boy, oh, you are gorgeous," she whispered, running her finger over his tiny cheek.
"I have heard the happy news about a son. Oh, how wonderful." Viserys said, happily coming into the chambers, making Lilly tense.
"Yes, husband, a healthy boy. He is to be named Aegon if that is alright with you," she said, showing the baby to him and making him nod happily.
"That is fine," he said before walking out of the room, shocking Rhaenyra and Alicent as well as the help, but not her.
"Please have him cleaned and help me clean up as well, and I will be feeding him no wet nurses." Lilly informed the help, making them nod and get to work.
"You did wonderful, sister," Alicent whispered, making her smile.
"Thank you, sister," she said as she watched Rhaenyra rock her son.
"You know, Rhaenyra, your mother always told us there was no other feeling, and when your firstborn is placed in your arms, she is certainly right." Lilly said as tears welled up in her eyes.
Rhaenyra smiled at the mention of her mother, and even though she was scared of giving birth, she couldn't wait until she had her own children.
"Why don't we go get you some carrot and lemon cakes?" Alicent suggested getting the feeling that her sister needed a moment alone.
"That would be wonderful, thank you, sister."
