CHAPTER 2
[New Orleans, 2012]

The compound lay silent when Georgia returned home that night, a silence she was grateful for. Elijah was in the bayou with hope, Freya was out blowing off steam and Klaus was nowhere to be found. She sighed to herself as she climbed the stairs and made her way into Elijah's room.

She had given Davina free rein on their apartment, it was a temporary move at first but the compound soon became her home. It became harder to leave hope in a situation where her father and uncle were at constant odds. She didn't want that for her, so she stayed - removing her from situations the second words became volatile. Plus she enjoyed the life that Elijah had provided for her there, she lived like a queen because she was one in his eyes.

She changed into her pyjamas and reached for the book on her nightstand as she climbed into bed, picking up where she had left off until a knot turned in her stomach. Something didn't feel right. Setting the book down, she reached for her phone as she called Elijah. "Lijah.. is everything okay?"

"Well that hangs entirely on how one would describe okay?" He sounded worn out and exasperated.

Georgia sat up, placing Jane Austen's persuasion on the night stand. "What's going on?"

"There are hunters everywhere, Hayley is nowhere to be found" Elijah sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Where the hell is hope?"

"With Freya, do not worry." Georgia sighed in relief as Elijah paused, glancing around at his surroundings. "There are corpses everywhere, I have no way of knowing if any are Hayley"

"Elijah if the pack knew about the hunters, they would have ran. Hayley's probably with them. Leave a note or something and get Hope home and out of the cold." She frowned, running a hand through her hair.

Elijah nodded. "Alright, I'll send Freya home with her."

"What about you?" She picked at her nails anxiously.

"I am going to hunt down every last-"

"By the sounds of it, you've already made a dent in their numbers so just... leave it okay? If Hayley's alive she won't let the sunrise without seeing her daughter" Georgia chewed on her bottom lip as she waited for a response from the other line. Elijah wiped the blood from his face, sighing.

"Alright, I am heading home now"

And that he did. Elijah, along with Hope and Jackson returned soon after. Georgia raised an eyebrow at the sight but no words were exchanged as the men marched upstairs towards Klaus' room. Georgia smiled down at Hope before taking her to her room to get her settled for the night.

Within his bedroom, Klaus was stood out on the balcony, calmly sipping from a tumbler of bourbon. He rolled his eyes as thudding footsteps burst into the room. "I thought I smelled swamp"

Elijah and Jackson stood before him, glaring furiously as he spun around.

Jackson bounced toward him. "What'd you do with Hayley?"

"Tell us what you know" Elijah reasoned, gripping Jackson by the shoulder.

Klaus smirked, stepping towards them. "Has Jackson misplaced his bride? Come to think about it, I did read that global warming was affecting migration patterns. Try Maine!"

"I just left the bodies of the people I care about to rot in the woods because you left them defenceless against poachers." Jackson snapped, rolling up his sleeves. "Kingmaker land development. Does that ring a bell?"

Klaus' smug smile fell.

"Yeah the CEO is Lucien Castle." Jackson gestured towards Elijah. "I've been told you two go way back-"
