CHAPTER 18
[ New Orleans, 2012 ]

Elijah emerged from the shower, his unruly, wet hair framed his face as he adjusted the towel that hung low around his hips. Georgia was finishing with her hair, glancing up at him through the mirror as she curled the final strand. "So what's your plan? Cami is out there with the white oak, and there's no way in hell anyone else is dying, especially not you."

Elijah chuckled, searching through his vast closet of 3-piece-suits. "Camille and I are friends. My brother is the one you must worry about but alas, Niklaus can handle Camille. 'Til then, I'll keep Aya distracted."

Georgia watched closely as he pulled an ornately carved scroll cover from their top drawer, she raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"Aya? Can't we just kill her already?" He glanced over at her through the mirror, visibly embarrassed and hesitant to reply as he pulled on his pants.

"She and I have history." Georgia raised an eyebrow.

"One of your projects?" She brushed through her hair gently before standing. Elijah watched her intently as he searched for the correct answer, to which there was none. It wasn't a casual conversation to have with your girlfriend and certainly not a peaceful one either. Georgia moved beside him, opening the drawer beneath the one in which the scroll had been stored. Her eyes raked over the various colours of ties as Elijah began to button his shirt. "I mean I get it, she's hot."

"Aya was a towering intellect with an insatiable curiosity. Passionate, fearless, and something of an outcast." He watched as she ran her finger tips across the colour coordinated drawer before finally landing on a navy tie which corresponded with her figure hugging dress. "Long ago, I invited her... to join a rather elite company. I determined she was perfectly tailored to bear the responsibility of an immortal life. I made her like me."

Georgia nodded as she lifted his collar, before looping the tie around his neck. "Ah, I see. She was one of the first Strix."

"We cared for one another deeply." Georgia smirked as she tugged his tie taut. Elijah let out a short gasp at the sudden movement, choking slightly due to the restrictions upon his air way. He chuckled as he readjusted the tie before glancing down at her rotten smirk.

"Little heavy on the adjectives, babe" Georgia glanced up at him, her eyebrow still disapprovingly raised.

"Together, we created a fellowship unburdened by the limitations of man. It was the pursuit of a glorious new world. And then Father..." he sighed deeply, closing the drawer and resting against the piece of furniture. "Led by that unquenchable desire to slay his children, Mikael descended, accompanied by a small army. He laid to waste everything that I built. So... We had no choice but to run."

Georgia glanced toward him as she packed her purse."I'm assuming she didn't come with you?"

"Aya did not. So, when Tristan found her, he rescued her. She, of course, came to see him as something of a savior. And, in time, beneath his corrupted guidance, they made the Strix what they are today- a hive of depraved and ignorant savages." Elijah sighed as he stepped towards her, brushing a stray piece of hair behind her ear.

"And she's never forgiven me. I'm not entirely certain I've ever forgiven myself." Georgias brow jolted in disapproval once again. "Well of course I am satisfied in how my love life has panned out since, but I have not forgiven myself in abandoning the strong alliances that I had formed. I had not yet learned that, family was all that I was entitled to in the long course of my life."

"Okay." She rolled her eyes playfully. "I guess I'll pretend that I'm overjoyed that you're spending the day with your ex."

"I rather enjoy this jealous side of you." Elijah smirked, trailing his finger along her jaw. "But as I recall, you are also spending the day with an old flame."
