CHAPTER 4
[ New Orleans, 2012]

The trio had now migrated to the study, leaving Freya to sleep off the effects of her spell. Klaus was sat at his desk with Elijah pacing in front of the fireplace as Georgia picked at her nails anxiously on the couch. "Lucien certainly qualifies as a friend-"

"Really? He sounds like a prick?" Georgia raised an eyebrow.

Elijah scoffed. "That is exactly the sort of company that Niklaus keeps"

"All I am saying, is that Lucien's miraculous return does not spark me with confidence. I say we put him down. Just like old times." Klaus smirked, tossing his pen on the table.

Elijah laughed in disbelief. "Just like old times? Brother, I wonder who among our family do you suppose has the greatest predilection for betrayal?"

"Brother please." Klaus simply rolled his eyes, leaning back in his seat.

"Now, before we murder Lucien, there are certain questions that need to be answered. Chiefly, what is he doing here?" Elijah raised an eyebrow but Klaus remained silent. "And the wolf venom... why would he lie to you, his sire?"

He chuckled, picking up one of Klaus' paintbrushes, tossing it into the air and catching it several times. "I'm afraid we might have to resort to something deliciously medieval here, brother"

Klaus began to laugh as Georgia chimed in.

"Absolutely, but are we all just going to ignore the bigger question?" She raised an eyebrow as the brothers turned to her.

"Which would be?"

"Okay so one of you is going to fall by friend - the suspect pool is pretty small because you guys have a tendency to make enemies - family, again pretty easy but flame? What the hell does that mean? As far as I'm aware you guys can't die that way, that or Elijah died in a fire 8 months ago and some creep has been following me around ever since." She looked between them, watching as they both attempted to stifle their laughter. "What? Don't make me look stupid"

"Apologies love, I thought Elijah had you well up to date on eighteenth century literature. Flame, in this context, refers to a fleeting, romantic entanglement, in reference to as soon as it is lit- it is stubbed out." He reached out, pinching the candle wick in front him. Georgia watched closely as a stream of smoke wafted through the air. "And each of us, has quite a few of those"

"Oh... okay, that- that doesn't really help settle my nerves at all"

"We shall take this godforsaken prophecy in stride" Klaus chuckled, standing from his desk. "Now back to your torturous proposals dear brother. I'd like to circle back to your use of we - have you finally forgiven me?"

Elijah rolled his eyes. "I will consider it..."

Klaus almost allowed a smile to play upon his lips when Elijah continued.

"When Hayley forgives you, you begin to treat Georgia as a human being once again and hell freezes over." Georgia attempted to hold in her laugh. "For now, however, let's just hope your little friendship with lucien doesn't disrupt our mission"

Elijah winked at Georgia before leaving the room, leaving her alone with Klaus as he digested Elijah's words. "I really don't know what you see in that tremendous-"

"Not another word Wolf boy" she laughed, as Klaus grabbed his coat before following Elijah's lead.

The pair found themselves at Luciens apartment, planning to question him further on his sudden appearance in NOLA. "Lucien... come out, come out wherever you are."
