CHAPTER 8
[ New Orleans, 2012 ]

Hayley was sat upon the steps to the alter of Lafayette, drinking a beer beneath the stars after a long day of watching over Davina. Her human state had come at a price, one she was willing to pay. Davina joined her as witches piled out of the cemetery after the fete de cadeau.

"Happy witch day, or whatever this is..." Hayley smiled up at the young witch.

"Hayley, I wanted to thank you." She smiled gratefully, toying with her rings.

"For what? The free fashion advice?" Hayley raised an eyebrow as the pair laughed. Davinas hand trailed over her neck where a hideous orange scarf was once tied.

"You were right. Since I became Regent, I've tried to control everything and everyone. But, that's not me. I don't want to be that person anymore." Davina made her way up to the alter, bringing back with her the candle that masked her curse. "I asked the Ancestors to give me the magic to lift your curse. Since it's Cadeau..."

Hayley looked at her warily, unsure of what was to come as Davina blew it out.

"They granted it." Davina tried not to laugh as Hayley stared at her in disbelief. "Keeping you a slave seems like something the older generation would do."

Davina handed her the candle. "I'd rather have you as a friend."

Hayley grinned, her smile growing even more so as she glanced over Davinas shoulder. "I like having you as a friend too Davina, but I think there's someone who wants to have you as a sister again."

The young witch turned slowly. Georgia was stood with a small stuffed animal in hand. "Sorry for not bringing something live, I thought you'd be sick of sacrificing animals by now"

Davina's tough demeanour faltered as she ran towards her sister, engulfing her in a hug. "I didn't think you were coming- and I wouldn't have blamed you but I've had the worst week ever and I just...-"

Georgia laughed softly through her tears. "Hey it's okay, I'm here now. Bygones?"

"Bygones" Davina smiled up at her, taking the stuffed animal from her. She erupted in laughter. "A goat?"

Hayley also let out a laugh. "At least it's not the live kind!"

"What the hell have I missed?" Georgia grinned as the trio sat upon the steps. Hayley passed her a beer.

"No tell me what I've missed. I've been so mean to you. I... I want to know everything." Davina turned to her, also taking a beer.

"Young lady-"

"Oh quit it Georgia and tell me how the hell you managed to get Elijah Mikaelson to settle down!" They spent the night laughing and crying as they finished their pack of beer under the stars. Catching up on what they had all missed, from Elijah and Georgias first night under the stars to that night six months ago in the very same cemetery and right up until that very moment. They then walked eachother home, Hayley and Georgia waved Davina off into her apartment as they made their way towards the compound.

"Georgia, I just wanted to apologise for taking my anger towards Elijah out on you." Hayley glanced at her, fiddling with her wedding ring as she walked.

"Honestly Hayley, I knew it wasn't personal and if I'm honest, I'm kind of grateful for everything that has happened between us. I don't think we would have been as good friends if we didn't have that initial dynamic. And thank you, again for being there for Davina." Hayley nodded, smiling.

"It's the least I could do after what you did for me and Hope."

"How is she?" Georgia raised an eyebrow.
