The days after the funeral were a blur. The coven stayed together as a sign of support for Bianca. The school had given them the week off, and they had spent the last two days in mourning. Now, it was the third day, and the silence was starting to get to everyone.
"Shall we wake mother?" Rebekah asked. "She needs to plan the ball, and I think a celebration would do everyone some good right now."
Bianca looked up from her book, the room's silence was pierced by the ticking clock. She nodded slowly, the thought of planning something festive feeling alien after the weight of recent events. "Yes." She said finally. Bianca had placed Esther under a powerful sleeping spell because she didn't want the original witch to take the opportunity to use the Bennett witches that were in town as a battery or siphon any magic from the rituals that needed to be done. That and the group didn't want anymore unnecessary drama from the woman. "We should get her up."
They all shared a look, then went to the room where they laid Esther. Esther was sprawled on the bed, looking peaceful, her blonde hair fanned out around her head. Bianca approached her cautiously, whispering the incantation to break the spell. Her eyes fluttered open, and she sat up with a start. "What's going on?" She looked around, clearly confused, but no one answered her, silently wishing they had left her in that comatose state a bit longer.
The planning for the ball began in earnest. Esther's influence was everywhere, from the sumptuous fabrics for the decorations to the exquisite menu she had personally selected. The siblings watched her every move, looking for any signs of her true intentions. No matter how much she tried to order them around, they never caved. They told her that she was the one who wanted this ball, so she should plan it herself within reason. They knew that she was hiding something, but they had to play along for now. Compelled servants busied throughout the mansion draping silk in the grand ballroom and polished the silverware to a mirror finish. The scent of fresh flowers filled the air. It was clear that this was not just any ball but an event of opulence and grandeur. Esther's eyes sparkled with excitement as she surveyed the preparations, her mind racing with thoughts of the evening's ball. She had invited all the important families in the town, hoping to make a grand impression. The Equinox coven knew this ball wasn't for the Mikaelson siblings but to highlight Esther's importance as their mother.
The siblings, on the other hand, had their own plans. They knew that the ball was a facade for something much darker, something that threatened the very fabric of their family. They gathered in Bianca's room, the one place that was safe from their mother's prying eyes. The shelves were filled with ancient texts and artifacts, remnants of their long, tumultuous history. The scent of aged leather and dust mixed with the faint aroma of the candles flickering on the table as they discussed their strategy. They were determined to find out what Esther was really planning and stop it before it could come to fruition. They knew that Bianca had an idea, but they also knew that she hadn't recuperated from the funeral, the spell that the Bennett coven did still lingered around her. Sometimes they would see her staring off in the distance with a sad look in her eyes.
Klaus spoke first, his voice a low rumble that seemed to resonate with the very walls. "We can't let her have her way with this ball. We need to figure out what she's up to." His gaze shifted to Elijah, who nodded solemnly, stroking his chin as he often did when deep in thought. "I've noticed she's been spending a lot of time in her room."
"That is so unlike her, she's normally wants to be seen." Kol spoke.
"Don't drink anything." They turned to Bianca, who spoke, her eyes were unfocused, and she looked off in the distance. Klaus went to her.
"Darling." He called softly. "What do you mean?" Bianca's eyes met his.
"The food. Don't eat. The drinks. Don't drink." He nodded and led her to her bed.
"Why don't you rest for a bit, okay." He tucked her in, and Jeremy and Rebekah joined her. Fin stayed close beside Tyler, who kept his eyes on the trio along with Enzo. They were all on edge. Finally, everything for the ball had been completed, invitations had been sent out, and the anticipation grew with each passing day. The siblings took this time to form their own plans, using the event to their advantage. They knew that their mother was expecting complete obedience from them, so they decided to give her a show she'd never forget.
The day of the ball arrived, and the tension in the mansion was palpable. Esther was a whirlwind of activity, her sharp eyes missing nothing as she oversaw the final preparations. The siblings went about their usual routines, biding their time. They knew that they had to be at their most vigilant tonight. The town's elite began to arrive. The sound of laughter and music filled the air, and the aroma of rich dishes wafted from the grand dining hall. Guests dressed in their finest attire began to arrive, their curiosity piqued by the sudden appearance of the Mikaelson family. Esther watched from a distance, a smug smile playing on her lips as she surveyed her handiwork. Klaus, Kol, Elijah, Enzo and Tyler garnered the attention of all the ladies and a few males as they waited for their significant others. The coven had, as usual, dressed according to color. Tonight's color was gold.
