Rhea strutted down the corridor after seeing Chad, a million thoughts running through her head. Their talk did not last long, Chad quickly shut the door after seeing Rhea there, telling her he wasn't 'dealing with her drama' the night before the game.
She couldn't do this much longer, the constant pulling and shoving. Her emotions were taking over, she needed to calm herself down. Rhea wasn't fully sure if she had full control over her body as she walked the hallways, tears welling up in her eyes, down a route she was all too familiar with- the way to the kitchen.
She always went there to calm down, she would make brownies or the famous beignets that her best friend's mother shared the recipe of. One time she made 'special' brownies to help her sit through Chad's tourney match. She had no grudge against tourney, but instead with how Chad would brag or moan about the match for weeks to follow.
As she walked she checked if she put her cigarettes in her bra before Ben showed up unannounced at her door, she realised she forgot her lighter, "Twat." She mumbled quietly, directed at Ben for being the reason she forgot it, but she carried on to the kitchen. She was certain she hid a packet of matches there once.
Rhea doesn't normally smoke or take drugs or even drink, but Chad, as well as other things, had been so stressful lately that she needed a release. She knew it would in the long term be detrimental for her health if this was her sole coping mechanism, but she hasn't touched her drawer containing her supplies in well over two months, and if she didn't have a smoke she feared a full-blown mental break-down was due.
As her hand gripped the handle, she heard a voice, "Yeah, I did." a boy said, she thought she recognised it as Jay, but she wasn't certain to due only hearing his voice a handful of times. She twisted the handle and ,in fact, was greeted by the faces of the VKs. How wonderful, the new kids were about to watch her have a minor mental break down- how (not) fun!
"Hey, guys," She greeted them, "I see you found the most important room in the entire building." She received a light laugh from three of the four, while the purple girl stood tense, as if she was caught in the middle of a crime scene, "What are you making?"
"Cookies." Evie told her.
"Oh, cool," she stated and stuck her finger in the mix, quickly slipping it in her mouth.
Rhea was not expecting to be met with horror, as all four gasped, "Wait, wait, wait!" Carlos all but shouted at her, a look of terror in his eyes.
"What? I'm not going to double dip. Or is it like a hygiene thing? If so don't worry, I wash my hands, like, religiously."
"Feel anything?" Evie vaguely asked her, confusing the poor girl.
"Yeah," Mal added on, "like maybe it could be missing something?"
She took a minute to think, and during that time Jay smoothly glided oved to her and leaned against a bar that held a couple pots and pans, "Hey, there." The boy flirted, and Rhea had to admit he looked good, although she shot him an odd stare to remind him of what she told him the first time they met.
She pointed at Mal in a way that said 'I just had a brilliant, spontaneous, not at all original idea', "Chocolate chips," she simply stated, "they make almost all cookies better, the only exceptions are those frosted cookies, sugar cookies and oatmeal cookies."
"Chips?" Jay asked.
"And those are?" Mal asked while providing a gesture to signal for the girl to elaborate.
"Only the most important food group," She joked as she walked to the cupboard that had a few bags in it, "Chocolate chips are small pieces of chocolate, often used in baking to add a chocolate flavour and texture to a bunch of desserts, like cookies." She explained knowing how different their background was to her own.
