! TW: manipulation, deception !

[Name] woke up early that morning. Earlier than usual, and far earlier than she had these past few weeks. It had been, what, seven days since she'd left the house? She reached out for Julie as she lay beside her and tucked her hair behind her horns with a soft smile and yawn.

Julie let out a soft snarl, but it didn't frighten [Name]. She found it elusive. She wrapped her arms around her, holding onto her tightly. And even though this was one of the best mornings she'd had in years, something still felt off.

She was finally in Julie's arms, once and for all, laying beside her like she always dreamed. But she seemed different. She wouldn't talk about Walden or why she left. "Take your time. I'll wait for all eternity." She remembered saying that night.

She'd been stuck in her more monstrous form since the day she arrived earlier that week. She told [Name] that she was unable to turn back, that she'd be stuck like this. So of course, [Name] accepted it with open arms. She also requested that she stay in this house with her, both of them tangled together on this bed for what felt like so much yet so little time.

This was paradise. At least it was paradise in [Name]'s dreams. But it had been days since she'd seen the sun, since feeling the sun on her skin, since hearing the voices of the people she loved. The sun's rays peaked through the window that morning, splaying across their bodies.

She held up her hand and fanned her fingers through the dust mites and sunlight. She watched as the light lit her skin up as if she were a beacon. She arched her back and slithered out of Julie's embrace. She stood up and let her feet feel the warmth of the carpet beneath her feet.

She turned her head to look at Julie, who still slept. There was an imprint of wrinkles in the sheets from where [Name] was sleeping beside her hours before. She had obviously been there not too long ago.

Julie liked to sleep during the hours of the day. It was rare for her to get up, especially without causing an uproar. It was taking a toll on [Name]; not getting any sunlight. She got up from the bed, and for a moment, stood in the light of the sun.

The door swung open, softly then loudly creaking, and Julie walked in wrapped in a towel. Her hair was damp. When turning to look at her, [Name] had almost forgotten where she was. She was so pretty with drops of water sticking to her skin, her hair curled from the wet.

Julie squinted her eyes upon the sight of the sun. She snarled, closing the blinds swiftly. "It's so bright out, isn't it? What are you doing up?" Julie removed the towel and patted down the water on her body. [Name] opened her shirt drawer, pulling out a large white t-shirt for Julie. She took it with a smile, pulled it on, and continued to dress.

"I should probably go look for a job. I only have enough for the bill this month, after that, I'll have to start gardening again." She sighed, sitting down on the mattress. "How about I start a garden for us tomorrow? You know how I love it." Julie sat down beside her. She put her hand on her thigh, and momentarily, [Name] was calm.

They slipped back into bed together, Julie's arms wrapped around [Name], riddling the top of her head with kisses, showering her with a love she could only ever dream of. "I love you, [Name]."

"I love you too."

"What do you mean she quit?" Cod scoffed, clearly not convinced. "She'd never do that. Don't bullshit me." He went back to the files he was sifting through as if he'd strike gold, clearly more focused than Barnaby was. "Alright, alright, you know her better than me. But you always come in t'gether. Why not today?" Barnaby was much more upset than Cod was.

Probably because he knew that thanks to Walden's tantrums, Julie was no doubt with [Name]. Meaning Julianne was with her too.

But Cod hesitated before choosing to respond. "I haven't heard from her today. I thought she was jus' sick, bein' depressed and all." He shrugged, but his eyes remained stuck on the cold metal of the filing cabinet. Not on the files he looked through.

"Then can we please go check on her, jus' so I can be okay?" Barnaby ran a paw through his thick fur. Cod was obviously hesitating. The thoughts crossed his mind like a screenplay. "I can't just pack up from work. I mean, I'd love to, but Walden and Carmella will fry me on the barbeque for ditching again."

Barnaby's muzzle bunched up into a disapproving glare. "She skipped school for you when that kid dumped you, yeah?" He was almost too quick to retaliate. Cod blinked and finally looked at him. "How did you even know about that??"

"No time for questions, we gotta go."

As they arrived, night had already begun to cloak the surroundings, adding to the growing sense of unease for both Barnaby and Cod. Cod tapped his foot in impatience, his excitement brewing for what lay ahead, while Barnaby, unable to tap with his paw on the pedal, could only share in the energy that hung in the air.

When they pulled into the driveway, the sight of the house sent a shiver down their spines. It loomed before them, looking as if it had been untouched for years, rusted and overgrown, with vines creeping over the windows. Inside, darkness shrouded any indications of life.

Both Cod and Barnaby leapt from the truck, adrenaline pumping as they approached the front door, which seemed to be alive with the twisting vines that had engulfed it. They tugged at the door, but it wouldn't budge. After a series of heavy breaths, Barnaby broke the tense silence.

"Step back, kid," he urged, tension sparking in his voice.

Cod, heart racing with anticipation, stepped back without hesitation. Barnaby angled his paw and prepared to kick under the doorknob, ready for whatever awaited them inside.

Inside, it was dark and quiet, as if it were another abandoned house. It reeked of rotten food inside. "It's only been a few weeks, what the hell happened?" Cod shuddered, taking his phone out to shine its flashlight around the halls. It didn't take away from the uneasiness he felt.

They walked through the hall in search of [Name], her bedroom door swinging open, [Name] hurling herself out of it and letting out a blood curdling scream. Her eyes were bloodshot and blood spilled from her mouth. Sitting on the inside, replacing her tongue, was that same rainbow flower. The one that had been haunting [Name] and Julie both.

"Julianne.." Barnaby whispered under his breath. Before they could reach out to grab [Name], a head peered out. Folds of skin peeled out like petals, the flower sitting in the middle, Julianne's form looming in the hall. The giantess easily grabbed [Name].

With no effort at all, she licks her teeth and let her flower close up to reveal her mouth.

As if she was nothing, Julianne swallowed [Name] alive without a second thought.
