"That's not what the history books say."

"Do you take me for a fool?"

I felt a little taken aback by the desert king's statement. The hoarseness of his voice and the venom in his tone took me for surprise. Although in all seriousness, almost everything that he said took me for surprise.

He raised an eyebrow at me as he knelt before in the meadow of flowers. The look he gave me made me want to drop the array of swift violets, blue nightshades, amaranths, and daisies I had in my hands.

"Sorry, that just kinda slipped out." I say as I look down at my feet trying to avoid his gaze.

I wanted to slap myself a little for that. Of course, it wouldn't be in the history books. Until a few weeks ago, I didn't know much about the Great Hylian Sacrifice. All I knew was every couple of millennia, a sacrifice is given to the king of evil in hopes of quenching his unfathomable darkness to buy the hero of legend though time.

I sighed. The cool twilight filled air blew through my dress and cloak. Ganondorf's armored figure shielded me mostly from the wind, but I still felt it. He, however, seemed completely unbothered by it all.

He had been knelt there for our entire encounter.

He made no sign of being tired of being knelt in the meadow's endless fields.

His sharp glare was still just as intimidating as the day I first met him. I didn't think it would ever really change. But there was a more comforting feeling to it.

"I assumed so." He said stoically.

There was something inside of me that told me to go to him. This pull that whispered into my mind every time I was in his presence.

Mindlessly, I dropped my bouquet. I slowed moved closer to him as he opened his arms to me and stood. I walked into his embrace laying my head against his armored chest.

I could hear his fast heartbeat. I was a small comfort to know I wasn't the only one whose heart couldn't stop beating every time we touched.

"What are the sacrifices like?"

"That... that is a story I doubt you really want the answer to."

My eyes closed as I felt his one hand cup my head and toy with some strands of my hair. I knew that every single time I let him hold me like this, I was inviting him to snap my neck or crush my skull. Yet, I knew he wouldn't. I knew he could never hurt me.

"But I do, I need to know. Please."

I was desperate to know the secret history of Hyrule. No one except the throne knew the real secrets about the Great Hylian Sacrifice. Until, I was hand chosen by the princess, I didn't know about it.

The only thing I knew about it was what Zelda told me, and even that was insanely limited.

"It's like I said the first time we met. Zelda will send me a girl who looks similar to my first love. These sacrifices only happen once every thousand years, yet Zelda can always flawlessly pick a girl who looks like her. Like you."

He pulled away from me looking into my (eye color) eyes that were reflecting the stars above us. He still held a strand of my hair in his fingers when we weren't in each other's arms.
