My phone pinged for the 237th time. Yes, I counted.
Noah will not leave me alone, at all. He will not stop telling me that I overreacted, that it was normal for friends to do that.
Normal for friends to make out in a room with the door closed?
Noah is the same guy that forbade me from having any male friends because 'I would cheat on him'. Now that I really think of it, he was severely insecure.
Noah is the same guy that gets upset with me if another guy hits on me.
Noah is the same guy that hit on other girls during our dates.
But for some twisted up reason that I can't figure out for the life of me, I still love him. How could I let a guy like that worm his way into my heart so deeply?
I tell him to fuck off and block him. I won't let him gaslight me and feed me with sick lies any longer. I'm better off without him.
Then, the second to last person I want to talk to sends me a message.
Sunshine, I need you to
schedule a meeting tomorrow
at 4 p.m.I told you to stop
calling me that. You better not speak
to me like that again,
Sunshine. Was he being serious? Seriously, what the hell is wrong with him? He was never this much of an asshole when we were kids.
I furiously type back to him.
Maybe if you referred
to me as Nevaeh, I would
speak to you with more respect.Careful there. I can
fire you for that. The meeting has been booked.
I knew you'd do it, Sunshine.
Rolling my eyes, I tuck my phone away and feed Dion another spoon of rice.
"There's a good boy," I smile, sighing. I wish I was still a child. Then I wouldn't have to deal with my rotting life."My mummy was talking to a man yesterday," he says out of nowhere. I smile back at him, scooping up another spoonful. "He looked scary," he says, before eating another spoon of rice.
"Oh really?" I say. He nods. "What does he look like?"
"He has brown hair," he says, giggling. "And he has blue eyes. He had a black jacket on with his hood up."I try not to show my surprise on my face, because that is the exact description a 4 year old would give of Noah.
Why is he talking to Kristie?
Just then, Kristie steps through the front door. I feed Dion his last spoon of rice then I stand up.
"Hi Kristie, I've just finished feeding Dion." She nods at me.
"Really? What did he tell you?" She asks. But before I can answer, Dion says, "I said you were talking to a scary man with brown hair, blue eyes and a black jacket,"
Sometimes I wish he couldn't speak perfect English aged 4.
Kristie looks at me guiltily. That was all I needed to know.
"I can't believe you." I say, staring at her with pure disgust.
"I swear, Vee, it's not like that. Hear me out," she begs, taking my hands into hers. Sighing, I nod at her and let her explain. "Basically, Noah's been messaging me. He's been asking about you and he asked me to talk to you about the situation,"
"No. That's all I need to hear from you," I interject, forcefully pulling my hands out of hers. "I told you I never wanted to see him again. What makes you think I would listen to you?" Kristie looks at me with tearful eyes. "I told you everything horrible thing he did to me, and you were ready to convince me to get back with such a monster," I take a few steps back. "I trusted you."
"Nevaeh, please-"
"No. You don't get to guilt trip me anymore," I look at Dion's confused and my heart breaks. I turn around and grab my luggage. Everything was already packed and ready to go. Before leaving, I look back at Kristie, and say, "Don't contact me anymore please."

A few days later...
Nevaeh places my cup of coffee down on my desk. I take a sip and place down the cup firmly. She turns to leave. That's weird. She hasn't been talking much or anything, really.
"Too sweet," Two words make her halt midway. Annoyed, she slowly turns around.
"You're not funny, Damien." She grits out, storming over to my desk. The bite to her tone catches me off-guard, but I don't let it show on my face. I stand up and take a step toward her, trying to deter her even in the slightest, but she doesn't blink.
"That's Mr. Anderson, to you. Mess up my name one more time-"
"Or what? You gon' fire me? I dare you. I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm not in the mood for your shit." She spits, bitterly. Now, I could fire her if I wanted to, but she's so good at her job, even better than my former assistants.
She snatches the cup away from my desk.
I close my eyes and exhale, defeated. Yet I still want to know why she's acting so weirdly. As she's about to leave again, I stop her with a single sentence.
"Guess it's that time of the month,"
"What did you just say to me?" She spins around to face me. She doesn't look angry. She looks disgusted with my words, and she chokes out a bitter laugh.
It makes me want to watch her lose her mind even more.
"Feisty today, eh?" I continue to rile her up and smirk, as she takes a threatening step towards me.
I open up my mouth to say one last thing but my face is met with steaming hot coffee, staining my expensive suit in the process.
I stand in shock for a few seconds before opening my eyes my eyes, and I grab a paper towel from the tissue box on my desk.
I wipe my face clean, and look back at her. "Never, ever say that to a woman." She warns, dusting her hands. "Got it?"
With that, she angrily leaves my office, slamming the door extra hard.
Damn.
