5 years later...
NEVAEH
When I wake up, Damien's fixing his tie, getting ready for work.
I notice how he's been tired for the whole week.
Today's his birthday.
And I got a little something for him planned. But he can't know. "Morning, baby." I say, rubbing my eyes and sitting up.
I don't work at his company anymore since I'm running my own business. My memory flashes back to the day he proposed to me. I still remember it like it was yesterday.
I take my ring from the bedside table and place it on my finger. He was and still is my biggest supporter for my company - which has taken off by the way. He even helped me start it by getting me that building.
I already have branches across the country, but I haven't finished expanding. My company will be going global.
My husband walks over to the bed and gives me a kiss on the forehead. "Morning, soleil." He says. Then he gets on his knees and kisses my baby bump too. "Morning, baby girl."
He does that all the time. He did that when I was pregnant with Renée too. "Is Renée up?" I ask.
"Mhm, all up and ready for daycare." He replies, getting up and putting on his cologne. He's such a good father and husband.
He hasn't said anything about his birthday yet. He probably forgot, he's done that before.
"Remind me why you can't stay at home again?" I ask in annoyance. He's been at the office 24/7, and I've been missing him a little too much for my own good.
"I have a business to run, Nevaeh." He smiles down at me, and I roll my eyes. "I'll find some time, I promise."
"I have a business to run too but I'm free," I argue.
"That's because you're on maternity leave." He points out. I sit up and he bends down once more and captures my lips in a chaste kiss. "I'll be home soon, baby."
"Alright then." I flop back onto the bed. "Drive safely."
I feel a bit bad about 'forgetting' his birthday, but it's for a good cause.
Once I'm sure he's left the apartment, I know it's time to start preparing. I stand up and walk out of the room. Renée isn't going to daycare today, because we have a surprise party to set up.
I walk into her room, and there she is, colouring in a drawing. She looks up at me when I open the door, and immediately hugs me around my legs.
"Good morning mommy," She greets, and I pick her up, having her perched on my hip. "Is daddy gone?"
I nod, and kiss her on the cheek. "We better get started and decorate the house." I say.
I'm hanging up the banners and Renée is blowing balloons. For the third time, a balloon hits my face and Renée giggles. "Sorry," she smiles.
"I'll do the balloons. You can draw pictures for everyone." I say. At the moment, Joanne is out picking up the cake.
"Okay." She rushes off to her room to get started.
The elevator dings and Joanne walks through with a cake box in her hands. "Look who's finally awake," She smirks, before continuing. "I got some desserts too."
"Do you know if Kristie is coming?" I ask. We made amendments a few years ago, but she hasn't responded to my text.
"Nope." She shakes her head, setting the cake down on the table. "The decorations look nice though."
