A few months later...
NEVAEH
The cold wind sends chills down my spine as the faint beeps of the traffic below fill in the silence. I hold the rail of the balcony, admiring the view of New York City. The stars sparkle and the lights of skyscrapers gleam in contrast to the dark night sky.
A lot has happened this past month. Damien made an amazing recovery, his injuries fully healed way before they were meant to, meaning we're back in office.
So far, my father finally handed over Joanne. I don't know how Damien did it, probably by threatening him. But I don't care. Now I know my sister is safe from those awful people. Right now she's at a sleepover with her friends, leaving just me and Damien in the penthouse.
Also, Alejandro came clean to us. It was him who posted those photos of us on Twitter. I was jealous. I wanted her, he said, attempting to justify his actions but Damien told me to stand outside after that. I don't know what happened though, in a matter of minutes he came out and took us home.
Danté won his case and he's living in my old apartment and my dad's company has been turned to dust.
I'm pulled out of my thoughts when a familiar presence walks up behind me, caging me at the balcony rail with his hands. "You done with work?" I ask him.
"Mhm." He hums. I sigh, relishing in the warmth his body radiates, and he kisses the side of my face. "You ready to go now?" He asks. I hum, and soon enough we're walking through the lobby to the gold limousine, gold to match my dress.
"You look delicious in that dress." He mumbles into my ear, before he steps forward and opens the door for me, letting me in the limo first. Despite his charm, I can tell he's nervous, as he keeps twisting the ring on his finger.
"Is everything alright?" I ask. He shouldn't be nervous, after all we've gone on dates a million times. "You seem... nervous."
"I'm not one to get nervous, Nevaeh." He retorts, and I roll my eyes. He never really says my name unless what he has to say is important. Or he's nervous.
The whole ride, he kept checking his phone, looking out the window, and twisting that darn ring around his finger. Every time I looked at him, he was already staring at me and as soon as our eyes locked his eyes would dart away to his hands like a teenage boy with a crush. Every time I tried talking to him, he'd zone out.
"What was the name of the restaurant again?" I ask. He doesn't respond. I take his hand and he looks up at me. "Baby, do you have something you need to tell me?"
"I love you, Nevaeh." He blurts out. I've never seen him act like this. It's cute though. I smile softly at him.
"I know, baby. I know." I kiss him on the cheek, and he snakes his arm around my waist. I rest my head on his shoulder. That's when he calms down.
Not long after, the vehicle comes to a stop, signalling that we're here. The driver opens our door on Damien's side, to which he gets out first and gives a quick nod to the driver. Then he holds his hand out to me like he always does and I take it, stepping out of the limo.
He places a kiss on my hand, and I roll my eyes at his cheesiness. Then he places his hand on the small of my back, walking with me into the restaurant. "We're sitting at the top floor." He tells me.
Once we're at the busy top floor, we're taken to a table near the window, to which Damien pulls out my chair for me to sit down, before going to his own. We order our food, and I catch Damien breathing out onto his palm, checking his breath.
