it's currently 7:45am the next morning, matt managed to fall asleep an hour ago. he barely got the chance to sleep before being awoken to pounding on his door.
"matt!" chris aggressively knocks on the door.
he squints his eyes open, peering at the door.
"what?" he mumbles, rubbing his eyes.
"time to go, we're gonna be late." chris tries to rush him.
"for what?" matt sits up, confused.
"school, idiot. hurry up, you need to wake up so you can drive." chris begins getting antsy.
"dude, i'm not going to school." matt rolls his eyes, still puffy and red from crying, so he lays back down.
"yes you are, me and nick still need a ride, why wouldn't you go?" chris walks into matt's room.
"i'm done with it, chris. leave me alone, i haven't slept for 2 days." matt pulls the blanket over his head.
"are you serious? matt, you still have a life to live, don't just give up because you're depressed." chris sits on the corner of matt's bed.
"i'm not giving up, i tried my hardest for her. i lost everything, dude. what's the point?" matt sits up to look at chris, noticing every single one of kaia's things scattered around his room.
"matt, come on. you're so much better than this. you did it once, you can get through it again." chris pats his back.
"no, i can't. i only got through it the first time because i got her back, i'm not getting her back this time." matt shakes his head.
"really? because that kiss you told us about didn't sound very "i don't want to be with you" of her." chris jokes.
"it was just a goodbye, it doesn't mean anything now." matt crosses his arms.
"it absolutely means something. out of every time you've ever kissed her, which kiss was the most emotional and important? positive or negative." chris asks.
"that one, i guess. our first kiss was all adrenaline, everything after that was being comfortable and in love with her, but that one felt different." matt shrugs.
"different how?" he questions.
"i don't know, it felt like a promise. i don't know of what, though. i'm never gonna kiss anyone like that ever again, it was so personal. not that i want to kiss anyone else, anyway." matt looks at chris, not entirely sure of what he's trying to say.
"yeah, bullshit she doesn't want to be with you." chris laughs.
"have you not been listening to me these past two days? it was never about her not loving me or not wanting to be with me, she feels guilty and i can't convince her not to. there's nothing i can do, we both said we're still in love but she's persitant that her guilt would ruin the relationship." he rolls his eyes again.
"she's gonna change her mind soon, she has to." chris shrugs like it's an obvious statement.
"well, she's not gonna. can you leave my room, now?" matt tries to shoo chris away.
"dude, you have to drive us to school, we're about to be late." chris throws his hands up.
"ask chloe, man." matt shakes his head, laying back down under the blanket.
"bro." chris rolls his eyes, stomping out of matt's room to call chloe who is currently fast asleep with kaia.
she answers the phone and chris explains that matt is refusing to leave his room and they need a ride.
kaia wakes up, hearing the sound of chris' voice over speaker. chloe says she "can't hear" first thing in the morning, so she always answers her calls on max volume.
chloe agrees to drive nick and chris, and tries to convince kaia to atleast come for the drive to get out of her room and stop sulking.
kaia repeatedly refuses, saying she'd rather curl into a ball and die than leave her room and get in a car that's literally going to matt's house. the likelyhood she might see him if she went? high. so, she refused.
chloe was annoyed, but understood. she quickly packed up all her things and hugged kaia goodbye, deciding that she would also go to school and that she's probably come back over later.
chloe left, kaia stayed home. nick and chris left, matt stayed home. everyone missed those two all day, second period spare wasn't the same. chloe hated english without kaia, and chris hated gym class without matt.
nick got closer to zeke over the course of the school day, they were texting throughout all of the classes, nick explained the situation with matt and kaia since zeke had no idea what happened the night of the party since everyone just left.
he even joined them to go out for lunch on the break, there were two empty seats now, so there was plenty of room for nick to sit comfortably next to zeke.
he had so many questions for them about james, about matt, but more than anything, he continued to profusely apologize for feeling guilty about potentially being responsible for starting issues between matt and kaia.
chloe assured him that she hoped everything would go back to normal soon, and that they'd be back together in no time.
when matt did fall back asleep that day, the last thing he saw before he drifted off was the wrinkly picture of kaia he kept in his wallet that he had taken out to set on his nightstand, her having the actual nice printed out photo of them in the frame he got her.
she had another small bout of crying because she decided to look through her snapchat memories, never a good idea. atleast she managed to fall back asleep after she finished crying.
all their friends were hanging out and talking about how much they wanted the two to get back together while at the same time, they were both asleep and dreaming about eachother as their minds ran through all the happy memories and joyous moments they shared together.
matt's dreams were more scenerios of several different ways to get her back with a mix of a little tv-like replay of every time he fell a little bit more in love with her.
kaia's dreams were about matt, but he was angry and bitter towards her, if they had broken up and matt didn't care. but, she could tell how hard matt was trying to fight for her, the weight of the guilt being the only thing holding her back from telling him she doesn't actually want to break up with him, ever.
