later that day after matt and kaia had both woken up and gone downstairs, matt requested kaia make her special french toast that he loved so much.

kaia was busy in her kitchen cooking breakfast as matt sat at the kitchen island with his laptop so he could still be close to her while he answered graduation emails.

"did your mom talk to the school yet about you walking the stage for grad with everyone?" matt asks as he takes a sip of orange juice kaia poured him.

"yup, she dropped off the money for my cap and gown yesterday after we got my prom dress." kaia nods, flipping the pieces of french toast in the hot sizzling pan.

"then i think we're both set to graduate, there's nothing left to do." he sighs, shutting the laptop.

"i'm so glad highschool is over, no more drama and putting up with stupid people." kaia laughs.

matt agrees and stands up from his stool, walking around the island to stand right behind kaia and rest his chin on her shoulder as he watches her cook.

"careful, the hot butter might splash you." kaia warns him.

matt promptly ignores her and snakes his arms around her stomach, kissing the side of her face and earning a giggle from her as she places the last piece of french toast onto the plate on the counter.

"love you." he grins, kissing her again and walking back to his seat.

"love you most." she smiles in return, placing the big plate of french toast on the island and putting the silverware, plates, butter, syrup, and powdered sugar infront of him.

kaia turns off the stove and walks around the island to take a seat next to matt.

as they're eating their breakfast and watching saiki k together on matt's laptop, they both hear the front door open and they whip their heads around to see who it was.

"matty!" willow screams in excitement, jumping out of anne's arms and running up to matt.

he smiles and swallows the bite of food in his mouth, setting down his fork to catch willow as she jumps up into his arms in pure bliss.

"i missed you." she giggles.

"it's only been a couple days, willy."  matt laughs.

"i know, but i hate going to daddy's house. i wanna stay here with you and kai." willow fake frowns, glancing at kaia to see her reaction.

"don't say that, he loves you, baby." anne laughs, entering the kitchen.

matt stands up with willow, walks over to her highchair in the corner of the kitchen, drags it with his foot all the way over to the island, and sets her down in the seat.

"want some french toast? it's fresh." matt offers, grabbing one of her disney character plates from the pantry.

"yes! i want snow on mine." willow nods.

"of course." matt smiles playfully, putting a piece of the french toast onto willow's plate and cutting it up for her, adding some butter, syrup, and powdered sugar on top.

matt places the plate of food onto willow's highchair and grabs her little disney princess fork from the utensil drawer, handing it to her as she smiles big.

anne grabs her own plate of french toast as well, taking a seat on the opposite side of kaia.

kaia always makes too much food just incase other people show up and want some, which they always do.

anne thanks matt for getting willow food and he sits back down next to kaia to finish his own food.

"so, kaia." anne starts, clearing her throat.

"yeah?" she looks up from her plate of food and makes eye contact with her mom.

"your father asked me to relay a question to you this morning when i was picking up willow." she says, taking a bite of her food.

"really? what did he want?" she asks, her's and matt's attention now both on whatever anne is about to say.

"he wants to attend your graduation next week. he says he won't cause any problems with you or me, but he won't go if you don't want him to. i know you don't exactly get along great with him, so i understand if you don't want him to be there." she finishes, looking at kaia somewhat nervously.

"oh. um, i'm not sure. i thought you only had two tickets? one for you and willow." kaia sets her fork down and subconsciously started tapping her foot against the floor anxiously.

matt immediately notices and places his hand on her thigh to try and comfort her, but he doesn't butt in or say anything as it is pretty personal and he's only met kaia's dad a handful of times.

"i do only have two, he said if you make up your mind today he still has time to buy an extra ticket online. but it is friday so today is the last day he can buy one." anne takes another bite of her food to distract herself from feeling guilty by even bringing this up, knowing kaia hasn't always had the greatest relationship with her father.

"i guess i don't really care if he goes, but i don't want him to bother you at all. plus, he really doesn't like jimmy after the last time we had both our families together for that barbeque a couple years ago and i said jimmy was more of a father to me than he ever was. i don't want dad to pick another fight with him." kaia breathes deeply, looking at matt because he also understood how much more kaia loved jimmy than her own dad.

"if it makes it any better, justin is going and he knows how to fight pretty decently from playing poker with a bunch of old guys, i'm sure nothing could really happen between our dads with justin there." matt adds in, still rubbing kaia's leg for comfort.

"i doubt he'll start anything that big. it should be fine, tell him it's okay if he goes but if he does one fucked up thing, he has to leave." kaia says to her mom.

"okay, i'll tell him later." anne nods, smiling at kaia and silently mouthing "thank you" to matt.

everyone finishes up their breakfast and matt helps willow out of her highchair and cleans her up while kaia does the dishes.

after everything and everyone is all cleaned, anne goes up to her room for a nap and matt carries willow to the living room to watch (take a guess) ratatouille and play with her toys while matt and kaia sit on the couch together scrolling through their phones.
