matt wakes up to the sound of his phone ringing, he unravels one arm from around kaia to rub his eyes and wake up.

kaia and matt slept chest to chest, kaia tucked tightly under matt's arms as he surrounds her and keeps her body warm, her head nuzzled in his neck.

he reaches his one free arm over her and grabs his phone off her nightstand, answering the call from chris.

what do you want, chris? i'm sleeping.

can you drive us to school? chloe's sick today so she's staying in my room all day and mom and dad are both at work.

bro, you woke me up to ask for a ride? i better not wake kai up.

dude, please? i have a really important test for math today and it's our last week of actual school work before grad.

does nate need a ride, too?

he's already here. he spent the night.

what fucking time is it?

7:45, i can't be late for first period. this was my last option. justin is across town.

do i have to? i'm really comfortable.

you really think i wanted to get out of bed with chloe? kaia will be waiting for you when you get back. nick made bacon, i'll bring you some.

fine. you three better be outside waiting for me and ready, i want to go back to bed.

matt hung up the phone and grunted, looking down at kaia who was still fast asleep with her face pressed against matt's neck.

he frowned and kissed her forehead softly, whispering "sorry" as he tried to carefully and silently unwrap her arms and legs from around him.

once he was out of her hold, she grumbled and rolled over, facing away from him but still asleep.

"i'm just going pee." he whispered as he kissed her cheek.

her hand swatted him away as she curled up under the blanket, half asleep and acknowledging his words.

he grabbed his phone, wallet, and keys off kaia's nightstand, put on a pair of pants and a sweater over his sleepshirt, and tip-toed out of her room, not fully shutting the door as it would be too loud.

matt crept downstairs and slipped his shoes on, texting chris that he was on the way as he got into his car.

he started the car and drove off slowly, not wanting the loud engine to wake kaia up from outside and cause her to be grumpy later, something he'd have to deal with.

matt drove quickly over to his house, pulling into the driveway and seeing nick, nathan, and chris sitting on the front porch waiting for him.
