"ok, so tell me about the dream." matt turns his body towards kaia, taking a bite of his taco.
she sips her drink and sets it down, letting out a deep sigh.
"it was the night of THAT party, and we were standing in the front lawn. remember when i said i couldn't be a good girlfriend?" kaia looks at him, almost nervously.
"which is absolutely not true, but yes, i remember." matt laughs a little to lighten the situation.
"well, when i said that, it felt like a flashback but it ended totally differently. you got super mad at me and said i always play a victim." she says before eating some fries.
"first of all, you never do that and i don't even know if i'm capable of being mad at you. like, i'm not even joking." matt looks her in the eyes sincerely.
"i know. it just felt so real. then at the end, you, nick, and chris all left the party with james." kaia sighs again.
"do you feel like i would ever actually say those things to you?" he asks, sipping his drink.
"no, never. i think it was more reminding me of how my dad used to yell because i saw him at grad. the whole thing was just scary because you were the one who left me. when i left you, i regretted it immediately and there was still a possibilty in my mind that we could get back together. if it was the other way around, i would've lost you forever. that's the scary part." she weakly smiles, grabbing his hand.
"i'm glad we're talking about it, but i would never, ever leave you. you know that, right?" matt squeezes her hand a bit.
"i know. dreams always feel so real to me, the whole thing was awful. i do still feel a bit guilty about breaking up with you, but because we've talked about things so much instead of just letting them fester and build up, you make me feel so much better." kaia smiles.
"i'm glad we're talking about it, too. do you feel better?" matt rubs her hand with his thumb.
"yes. i love you so much." kaia leans in for a kiss.
"i love you more." he says after accepting the kiss.
"gonna finish your food so we can go home and back to bed?" matt gestures to her untouched taco.
"i forgot about that." kaia laughs and unwraps the taco, they both finish their food with the music playing quietly, enjoying eachother's presence.
cause it was always you, alright. and if i'm turning blue, please don't save me. nothing left to lose without my baby. birds of a feather, we should stick together, i know. i said i'd never think i wasn't better alone. can't change the weather, might not be forever. but if it's forever, it's even better. and i don't know what i'm crying for. i don't think i could love you more. it might not be long, but baby, i, i'll love you 'til the day that i die.
after they finished eating, matt got out of the car to throw out the trash before they left and kaia couldn't help but take a photo of him.

they drove home and went to bed, but matt couldn't stop thinking about kaia's dream all night. did she really think that he would ever leave her? how was he supposed to prove that he never would?
the next morning, matt snuck out of bed before kaia woke up. he didn't tell anyone where he was going, he only texted chris that he was going shopping just incase kaia woke up and asked where he was.
matt got back home a little after noon, and kaia was still sleeping, though everyone else was awake already.
"ooh, whatcha got there, matt?" nathan asked from the couch where everyone except kaia was watching tv.
"none of your business. it's a surprise, don't say anything to kai." matt hid the object from everyone as he ran upstairs, stashing the item somewhere in his closet where he knew kaia wouldn't find it.
as he turned around, he saw her beginning to wake up, so he walked over to the bed and sat next to where she was laying.
"morning, beautiful." matt pushed the hair out of her tired face.
"morning." she grunted and sat up, rubbing her eyes harshly.
"want breakfast? i can order us something, everyone else already ate." matt offers, kissing her forehead and getting out of his bed.
"sure, you pick." she answered groggily, following matt downstairs after brushing her teeth and loosely fixing her hair.
the two join everyone in the living room and matt orders food for just the two of them.
"prom is tomorrow, you excited, kaia?" chloe asks.
"yes, but we have a long couple days. today is hangover recovery, next day is prom, next day is flight to la. i need to get better sleep." kaia yawns and rests her head on matt's shoulder.
"don't forget about our modeling gig once we're in la, i told you last night." chloe reminds the girl.
"drunk you told drunk me and you expect me to remember? who is it even for?" kaia looks at chloe.
"pretties, the clothing brand. they wanted us to model the new underwear and shirts." chloe scratches her face.
"i remember. chris and i said we're going with you two if you're modeling underwear." matt looks down at kaia.
"that's fine. see? maybe i can make a living off social media like you guys. i really don't want another customer service job." kaia gestures to the triplets.
"it would be nice if you came to la with us more often." nick adds.
"i totally forgot we agreed to that, but it should be fun." kaia nods.
after waiting about 15 minutes, matt and kaia's food arrives. everyone lounges around all day and they're all super excited for prom the next day.
