Finally, the long day of school was over and we were all sat in the common room, laughing at Peter running frantically around the room trying to catch his chocolate frog.
I let out a long breath, feeling completely relaxed and content. I adored my group of friends, if you had told me in second year that I would be willingly spending my spare time with the Marauders I would have laughed in your face. But here I was, sandwiched in between Remus and James, laughing with the pair of foolish boys.
We all let out a cheer when Peter had finally caught the chocolate frog, holding it up triumphantly before popping it in his mouth.
Ten minutes later, Lily walked in with the mug of hot chocolate I had requested when she had said she was going down to the kitchens.
James was now lying on his front, on the floor with Marlene next to him, both scribbling on a piece of parchment labelled, "Halloween".
I have to say, I was excited for this party. Lily had already declared that we were dressing up this year. When I had reminded her that we were almost adults she had said, "Okay, we'll make the costumes sexy then." Hey, I wasn't complaining, my wardrobe wasn't exactly flashy, so it would be fun to spice things up a bit.
Lily held out the steaming mug of hot chocolate to me.
"Thank you, Lils," I said in a sing-song voice, giving her a cheesy grin.
She shook her head and rolled her eyes at me, trying to repress a smile.
She then sat down next to me, where James previously was, and leaned on my shoulder letting out a sigh.
"Bad day?" I asked and put my arm over her shoulder so that she was more comfortable.
I peered at Remus, on the other side of me, to see him very focused on his book with an expression on his face that made me hold in a chuckle. Although, he had been very quiet recently and I wasn't sure why.
"It's Severus," She admitted, now suddenly being very interested in the floor.
Lily knew about my distaste for Severus Snape, not only was he vile to anyone that wasn't pure blooded or Slytherin, he had treated Lily badly too.
Lily and Snape had a strange friendship, they used to be as close as two can be, but as the years went on and they got older, they grew apart. They still spoke often and Lily still cared about him but Severus became cold, started hanging around with the wrong people and there were even rumours that he was practicing dark magic.
"He's now joined Malfoy and his gang, I have tried talking to him but he won't even look at me anymore. I'm worried about him, I've even heard rumours about his group of friends wanting to be Death Eaters, and at this point, it's completely believable," A tear rolled down Lily's eye and I pulled her closer, resting my chin on the top of her head.
Lucius Malfoy's group of friends was a very well known throughout Hogwarts, and not for good reasons. It consisted of Bellatrix Black, Narcissa Black, Regulus Black, Bartemus Crouch Jr, Evan Rosier along with a few others, and now, Severus Snape. To sum them up, they were a gang of bullies. Their parents were all pureblooded and disgustingly wealthy, they were also known supporters of You-Know-Who. The only one who was different was Narcissa, who was Lucius' long time girlfriend, the few times I had spoken to her she had been surprisingly civilised with me. She had apologised for Evan Rosiers' behaviour towards me. Evan had tried to get me to sleep with him last year and when I declined he had called me a mudblood and hexed me. Ever since then, every time he saw me he would make some sort of sexual innuendo.
"Lily, I know it's difficult but I think it's time to let him go, he's treated you like shit over and over again, but you're too sweet to say anything about it. He has made his choice and although it may not be the right one, there's nothing that can be done to change it. He doesn't deserve your friendship, much less your tears, Lily." I comforted whilst stroking her long, red locks.
