Last filler chapter before Mark of Athena begins! (AKA last happy moments before p a i n) It's pretty short compared to other chapters. Enjoy!
May came quicker than Laylana expected. The entire structure of the Argo II was built, and now it was down to the final straw. Leo and his siblings were focused on any weapons like the ballistas, and the engine room. They had left Laylana and Piper to the decorating and gathering of any furniture or other items needed. So far, the girls had finished the showers, bathrooms, dining hall, and the stables. They only had everyone's cabins left, which would take the rest of the month with the pace they were going at.
Laylana had a tendency to get distracted. As most demigods do with their ADHD, but Laylana could almost never focus properly these days. To combat it, she dragged her speakers and MP3 player anywhere she went on the ship, constantly playing music and dancing and singing to it while she painted. Today, her and Piper were focused on completing Piper's cabin, which was currently being painted the colour that Laylana had originally picked. The girls were covered in paint, and they were only starting the second coat now.
"The boys are gonna kill us." Laylana motioned to the paint on them.
"Leo might if we get paint outside this room." Piper giggled. "Otherwise they're just gonna make fun of us."
"We look like we were wrestling in the paint. Like how did this happen?"
"You could make an innuendo out of that."
"Oh please."
"Have you seen them hit on each other? They're obviously in love."
"You're so right." Laylana snorted. Piper was not wrong. It had first started with Leo, but then slowly as Jason got more comfortable, he started snapping back with his own comments. Not that Piper and Laylana were any better. Someone new at camp ended up mistaking the four of them for being in a polyamorous relationship.
As they painted, the girls listened and sang along to the music Laylana had. She had recently added more songs at Piper's requests, noticing the girl's more 'dancing songs' taste in music. Not that Laylana was complaining, she loved it. It helped her get her energy out, and ignore the impending doom she felt.
"Oh fuck yeah," Laylana moved to the beat of the next song, 'Fireball' by Pitbull. "Where's Leo when you need him?"
"Oh he'll probably come running soon. He loves this song." Piper danced along with her, the girls partially forgetting their work to dance together.
What they didn't know was that both their boyfriends had come to check on them at that point. They watched from the doorway as the girls moved to the music, singing together, holding each other's hands with smiles on their faces. Their hearts thumped in their chests as they watched. They were also shocked at how the girls kept up with the music. Jason almost thought that Piper's charmspeak had made its way through her movements, or maybe he was just that in love with her.
Leo took the chance at the last part of the chorus to sneak up behind his girlfriend, wrapping his arms around her waist as she squealed in surprise, Jason moving over to Piper.
"How long were you guys watching us?" Laylana asked with a laugh.
"Oh you know, just the whole song." Leo pressed a kiss to her cheek.
"You two were good." Jason had a small smile on his face as he had an arm around Piper. "You are also looking like complete messes."
"Okay, it's not my fault when Piper will flick paint at me." Laylana glared at her best friend.
"You do it too!" Piper defended.
"Only after you did it first!" Laylana shot back as Piper gaped at her. "Close your mouth before I shut it for you."
