As I received Moonon's call, a sense of dread washed over me. He rarely sounded this way—strong, always in control. But this time, he was shaking. Then he spoke: “Leng…”
In that instant, everything around me froze. My heart skipped a beat, and a cold rage surged through me. I could barely breathe.
“What?! Tell me, Moonon. What happened to Leng? Did you find him?”
“He’s in the hospital. He had an accident. Please come quickly.”
“Which hospital?”
“City Hospital, Phuket.”
“Okay, I’m coming. Bye.”
I turned, and there was Nanon. I had completely forgotten about him, but right now, there was no time to deal with his provocations. My only focus was getting to Phuket for Leng. He was all that mattered.
But Nanon, as always, didn't miss an opportunity to stir things up.
“So, you’re going to see that Leng guy? I don’t get what’s so special about him.”
“You wouldn’t understand,” I snapped. “You’re just an insensitive jerk. Now leave me alone and don’t show your face again.”
I didn’t care about his words. I jumped into my car, pushing myself to drive faster, determined to reach Leng as soon as possible.
By the time I reached the hospital, the atmosphere was much more somber than I expected. I had imagined there would be family and relatives around him, but instead, it was just Moonon.
“What happened? How is he now? Can I see him? Is he okay? When will he get discharged?” I bombarded Moonon with questions.
“Calm down, Ohm. He’s out of danger. He got drunk and drove the car. The accident could’ve been worse, but thankfully, he’s stable now. We just have to wait and pray for him to recover.”
As Moonon spoke, a crushing weight pressed on my chest. I couldn’t help but feel responsible, like it was somehow my fault. But right now, I couldn’t afford to think about anything but Leng.
Just then, the doctor entered.
“Doctor, how is he? Is he okay? Is there anything serious?” I asked urgently.
“Who are you?”
“I’m Ohm Pawat, a friend of the patient.”
“Okay, Mr. Pawat. He’s fine, fortunately. He’ll recover soon, but he’ll need to be monitored closely. Please wait a bit before visiting him.”
I nodded, relief flooding me as I sank into a chair beside Moonon.
“So, what happened exactly?” I asked.
“From what I know, he was having heart trouble, so he went to a bar to drink. He got drunk and then crashed his car. But at least he’s okay for now.”
“Does he have family problems? Or maybe relationship issues? Why is he acting like this?” I asked, trying to make sense of his behavior.
Moonon looked down, unsure. “I don’t know... Maybe he’s just been holding too much inside.”
“Does he love anyone? Maybe that would help him relax.” I asked, my voice softening.
Moonon’s thoughts ran deep. He knew the truth, but he couldn’t say it. He loves you, Ohm. He’s loved you for years. He’s done everything he can for you. But you still don’t see it...
“I don’t know,” Moonon answered, his tone distant.
The nurses came out, and I stood, eager to see Leng.
“Can I go in?” I asked.
“You can, but he’s still unconscious.”
“Thank you. I’ll go now.”
I entered the room, and there he was. Despite the bandages, he was still breathtaking. I had always found him beautiful, but seeing him like this, so vulnerable—it hurt.
I sat beside him, my hand brushing against his. “Leng, please stop pushing me away. I know you like me. I like you, too. We’re best friends. You can’t keep doing this to me. Don’t leave me. I’ll never forgive myself. Please, Leng, please…”
I cried, begging him to wake up. But he remained stubborn, locked in silence.
Then, as I got up, I noticed something on the floor—a piece of paper. At first, I thought it was just a medical note or a bill, but as I picked it up and read it, my heart stopped. It wasn’t anything ordinary. It was...
