Ohm's POV
It was just a contract, but it was from GMM. That alone shocked me. If Leng wasn’t working with GMM anymore, why was he still receiving such a contract letter? Curiosity got the better of me, and as I opened the envelope, my heart sank.
The more I read, the more my shock turned into misery. The words on the page painted a picture I hadn’t wanted to see—the reason for Leng’s deteriorating mental and now physical condition. This contract wasn’t just a piece of paper; it was a trap, forcing him into reforming the OhmNanon ship.
The ship had sunk long ago and wasn’t coming back, yet here was P’Tha, trying to revive it for profit. Profit at the cost of respect, sanity, and humanity. I couldn’t fathom why Leng would agree to this.
Tears welled in my eyes as I clenched the paper.
“Why, Leng?” I muttered bitterly. “I know P’Tha and P’Kwang aren’t good people, but why did you listen to them? Why did you sign this? I thought money didn’t matter to you. But seeing your signature here... it’s like a slap in the face. It feels like you planned to leave me, to hurt me, to break my heart from the start.”
I wiped my tears angrily. "If you didn’t want me in your life, you could have just told me. I would’ve respected that. But you were my closest friend, my brother. Did none of that mean anything to you? I hope you understand just how much I care about you.”
Before I realized it, tears were streaming down my face. As I turned to leave the hospital room, Moonon walked in.
“Hey, what happened? Why are you crying again? Leng’s out of danger now. He’ll be okay. Stop worrying so much—it’s not good for you,” Moonon said with a concerned smile.
“Yeah... yeah, I’m just happy he’s okay. That’s all. By the way, I have an event to attend. Please keep me updated on his condition, alright?”
“Of course. Take care,” Moonon replied.
I walked out of the hospital, the atmosphere outside doing little to calm my storming thoughts.
If he wanted to leave me, he would have told me. If he only cared about money, he wouldn’t have sacrificed so much for me. He wouldn’t have faced all that hate or adjusted his schedule just to be there for me. He wouldn’t have lost sleep to attend my races.
The memories hit me like waves, each one stronger than the last.
No, this wasn’t just about a contract. The spark in Leng’s eyes when we spent time together was real. Our friendship was real.
Determined to get answers, I made a decision. On my way to GMM, I called Mae.
“Hey, Mae, I need to talk to you. Meet me at GMM. It’s urgent,” I said, my voice trembling.
“But what—”
“Please, just come. I’ll explain everything when we meet.”
At GMM, Mae was already waiting for me.
“What’s going on, Ohm? You sounded so serious.”
“Sit down, Mae. I need you to be patient with me today. Please.”
Mae looked concerned but complied. “Alright, go ahead.”
I handed her the contract. Her eyes widened as she read it.
“Where did you get this? Did Leng give it to you? Have you seen him? Is he okay?”
I nodded. “No, he didn’t give it to me. I found it. He’s in the hospital right now—he got into an accident in Phuket. He’s out of danger, but... Mae, I need to know the truth about this contract. Please.”
Mae hesitated before sighing deeply. “Alright, listen. After your fight with Nanon, the company realized the ship was sunk. It was unprofitable, and P’Tha came up with a plan. He thought making Nanon jealous would reignite the ship. Leng was approached for this plan, and he agreed—but he didn’t know he’d be working with you.”
Her words stung, but I listened.
“Leng didn’t leave you because he wanted to. P’Tha lied to him, told him you wouldn’t be happy without Nanon. He thought he was doing what was best for you. That’s why he left without a word. That’s why he spiraled into depression, and that’s why he was drinking before the accident.”
I clenched my fists. “Why does he always do this? Why can’t he just speak his mind instead of hurting himself?”
Mae placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “It’s in the past now, Ohm. What matters is what you do next. Bring him back. He needs you.”
“I will,” I promised, my voice resolute.
“Good. When are you visiting him next? I’ll come with you,” Mae said with a soft smile.
“Tomorrow. I’ll call you and pick you up.”
“You really care about him, don’t you?”
“Of course. After everything he’s done for me, I can’t let him down. I was an idiot to think he left me for money.”
“It’s okay, Ohm. Just don’t make the same mistake again,” Mae said, playfully smacking my arm.
“I won’t, my queen,” I replied with a small smile.
