VALENTINA ARRIVED AT THE MASQUERADE BALL, the soft pink fabric of her gown swirling around her as she stepped into the grand mansion. A white mask covered the upper half of her face. The room was a kaleidoscope of color and movement, filled with masked figures dancing and mingling beneath the glittering chandeliers. Yet, with the excitement she was feeling, Valentina had a singular purpose: to uncover whether Katherine Pierce was working with anyone.
As she moved gracefully through the crowd, her eyes scanned the room. Her unique gift—an ability to sense the connections between people—was her greatest asset tonight. It was a power that had served her well in her celestial duties, and now, in her mortal form, it was one of her rare gifts that she still had left.
Valentina took a deep breath, allowing her gift to guide her. She closed her eyes for a moment, focusing on the web of connections that pulsed and thrummed around her. Each bond, each relationship shimmered in her mind's eye, a delicate thread of energy linking one person to another.
Suddenly Kol popped right next to her, making her flinch. "Katherine is here."
"Can you please stop doing that?" she whispered to him and looked around the room. "You are going to give me a heart attack."
Kol smirked. "I have known to be giving that reaction to women once or twice before with my deviously good looks."
Valentina chuckled and rolled her eyes. "I don't doubt you," she whispered back.
"Did you just call me deviously handsome, little Cupid?" he grinned.
Valentina turned away from him so he couldn't see her blushing. "I'm going to find Stefan." Valentina slipped out of the grand hall and into the cool night air. As she rounded a corner, she spotted him standing next to Damon near a fountain.
"Stefan," she called softly when she reached them.
Damon turned to look at her and looked her up and down. "Don't you look like a delicious cupcake, little Cupid?" Damon called with a smirk.
"If I ever get that goddamn dagger out of me, the first thing I'm going to do is break both of his arms and shove them right in his-" Kol started muttering under his breath.
"Katherine arrived," she said and the brothers looked around them as if to see if they could see her. "Inside," she rolled her eyes.
"Can you feel anything?" Stefan asked, seemingly unsure if that was the right question. Valentina had shortly explained how her gift worked and the brothers seemed to form a plan for how she could help them.
"I think I need to get closer to her," she replied. Her powers were nowhere near what they used to be.
"No way," Kol blurted out next to her but she ignored him and continued.
