VALENTINA WOKE UP GROGGILY IN HER APARTMENT, her head pounding with the remnants of a fitful night's sleep. The events from the previous evening were hazy, shrouded in a fog of emotional turmoil and exhaustion. She remembered the confrontation with Klaus, the way her heart had shattered with his refusal to undagger his siblings, and Rebekah's sudden appearance to offer her some semblance of comfort. But the rest was a blur.

As she sat up in bed, she felt the weight of her emotions press heavily upon her. The tears she had shed the night before had long dried, but the ache in her chest remained. The apartment was eerily quiet, save for the soft, almost imperceptible murmurs that seemed to drift through the air.

As the sunlight grew stronger, everything from the previous night started coming back to her. She remembered Rebekah and her driving to the dog daycare to get Rudy. Valentina asked the vampire to compel him a good family and the two girls continued their journey back to Mystic Falls.

They didn't talk much on their drive but she felt Rebekah's support, as well as Kol and Finn's who sat on the backseat. Rebekah had driven her to her home and left after Valentina assured her she was okay. A couple of hours later she remembered Klaus coming to her door and knocking on it for some time but she didn't make a sound as she waited for him to leave. Eventually, the hybrid left, probably after realizing she wasn't going to open the door for him, not without his siblings.

She remembered waking up during the night but was distracted by the soothing sound of Finn's voice. Though she couldn't understand his words, the cadence of his speech was calming, like a lullaby that drifted in and out of her consciousness. She remembered Finn's comforting murmurs continued through the night, and she let the sound wash over her.

She walked out of her bedroom and saw Kol and Finn sitting in the living room, talking in hushed voices.

"Good morning," Kol started carefully, and then Finn said something to him and he continued. "Finn says good morning--" Finn said something to him and Kol rolled his eyes and continued. "Beautiful."

It made her slightly grin. "Morning." She looked between the both of them.

Kol eyed her carefully. "How are you?" his tone was gentle.

Valentina's heart ached with a deep, gnawing pain as she stood in the presence of them, their eyes filled with warmth and unwavering affection. Despite everything that had happened, they still looked at her as if she were the center of their universe.

But instead of finding comfort in their gazes, Valentina felt an overwhelming sense of failure. Everything she had done was to get them undaggered and she had failed. And it hurt the most to know she failed her mates.
