Rosalie sat on the edge of her bed as she watched the ticking hands on her grandfather's pocket watch. Everything felt the same but also so different compared to this time last year. She always found herself running home to the Sallow's, but this time, Cragcroft won't be her home for long. She'll only have three full days in the little coastal town that she loved so much. Soon enough, it'll be gone in the blink of an eye, and she'll be on the next train to London where she'll spend the rest of her life working for the Ministry. Spending time helping Anne bake in the kitchen or watching the stars on the beach with Sebastian was sounding like a distant dream, a wish she would long for in the future.
Rose wiped the single tear that escaped her eyes and sat the pocket watch in her trunk, shutting it when she stood to her feet. She looked around her dormitory to take in every last detail. The stained-glass windows, scuffs on the floor from Heather rearranging her bed frame and wardrobe, the ivy plants wrapped around the support columns in the center of the room... How could it already be her last time standing in this very room? Time was an illusion as three years flew by too quickly.
She walked over to the door, looking over her shoulder at the quaint dormitory one last time before shutting the door to leave her past behind.
It was a bittersweet walk to the Great Hall. Students were saying their goodbyes and crying, others were playing pranks on each other. Rosalie's emotions were a teetering seesaw. She wanted nothing more than to relive her years here, even if it meant experiencing everything all over again.
Rose approached the Slytherin table as she saw her friends gathered around their usual spot, but today, it felt different there. The heavy weight of dread lingered in the air. While Heather, Milania, and Imelda tried roughing up Sebastian, there was a sense of sadness that laced their tone. This would be the last time they'd all be together as teenaged children. The next time they would all gather around would be at a wedding or even a dreaded funeral. Life gets in the way of your time as an adult; your plans always get ruined and there's nothing you can do about it except move on. It's just the harsh reality of it all. Growing older isn't what it's cracked up to be.
"Hello, everyone!" Rose called out as she sat next to Sebastian on the bench.
"Hello, my Rosie," Sebastian flushed as he snaked his hand around her waist.
Things have also changed between the two of them. That Friday night, when she ran out of the Great Hall, Sebastian ran after her. He calmed her down and held her until she was able to speak. Rose showed Sebastian the letter from Anne and explained to him the derogatory things Amos had said. It took all of Sebastian's strength not to get himself expelled right before graduation; Amos Isaacs was a low-life, self-righteous prick who not only hurt Rosalie, but also degraded Anne. The two people Sebastian is too overprotective of.
But that didn't stop Sebastian from being himself and confronting Amos the next morning. Sebastian didn't do anything drastic except pin him against the wall and promised to kill him if he ever spoke Rosalie or Anne's name again. That was the threat Amos was referring to, and since he came from a high-class family, Amos was raised to swim in the satisfaction of dragging everyone, who he classified as less, down.
