Mid-April 1896

The April air was growing warmer everyday as it inched closer to May. The gardens became evergreen and the landscapes became lush. The air was full of salt and floral aroma.

Rosalie stood in the mirror inside her bedroom, smoothing her hair and shaping out her brown sundress. Today, she and Anne had made arrangements to venture off into Hogsmeade to spend the day together. Rosalie couldn't remember a single time it was just her and Anne without the boys. She was ready for a nice, serene day to laugh together and enjoy each other's company.

Once she was ready, Rosalie walked across the pathway over to Anne's cottage. She knocked on the front door as she let herself in.

"Annie!" Rose called out.

"I'm in here!" she replied from her bedroom, her voice dampened.

Rose walked through the cozy home to Anne's bedroom to find her smoothing out a few stray pieces of her silver locks.

"I'm almost ready, I swear! These little buggers are just driving me nuts by not lying flat!" she cursed in the mirror.

Rosalie walked closer to her sister to help fix her hair. She took a brush and began combing her silver strands. "I believe now is a good time to tell you what we're doing today," she smiled.

Anne narrowed her brows in confusion and looked at Rose through the mirror. "I thought we were just enjoying our day in Hogsmeade?"

"We are," Rose started, her smile only growing toothier, "but I may have planned a few surprises for you."

"Oh, Merlin. It can either be exciting or terrifying."

Rosalie scoffed, "Have a little faith in me!" Anne mischievously smirked and waited for her to continue. "Our first stop will be at Madam Snelling's Tress Emporium."

"For whatever reason?"

"Well... I think that your brown roots look tacky," she jested... "Ow!"

"You deserved that!" Anne retorted as Rose held her right shoulder.

"I was only jesting, Annie! I was wanting to get your hair colored for you as a gift," Rose answered softly.

Anne looked in the mirror at herself more intently, inspecting her incoming life. After she was cursed, the first thing she noticed was her hair falling out, then it was the color of her skin, and lastly, her weight. The stress and pain from the curse coursing through her veins then caused her fine hair to turn the silver everyone sees now. It had never crossed her mind that she would ever be well enough again to see her old self growing back to life.

Only a few tears escaped her eyes as she tried to quickly wipe them away. "That sounds like a wonderful idea," Anne said; her voice was barely a whisper as she choked on her words. Rosalie wrapped her arms around Anne's shoulders from behind to comfort her.

After collecting themselves, Anne and Rosalie used the Floo network and were transported to North Hogsmeade. They appeared next to the Hengist of Woodcroft—the statue in the fountain surrounding the giant willow tree—engulfed in quickly disappearing green flames. Rose and Anne interlinked their arms and began walking to the first surprise, although it is not a surprise now.
