Buck woke up, covered in sweat with Eddies name lingering on his lips.He had the same nightmare he did every night. Eddies funeral. Buck carrying Eddies helmet, trying to keep himself from crying Infront of everyone. Buck looking at Eddies dead body, seeing Christopher sob over it. It always ended the same way- the entire 118 screaming at him, about how he couldn't save him. About how it was all Bucks fault.
And the worst part was, Buck knew they were right. He had froze.
"Buck!"
Christopher's small voice echoed Buck back into reality. The reality where Eddie was in a coma, he had been for the past week. After two days of Christopher sleeping at Athena and bobbys, Buck had finally went to stay with him at Chris's house. This was hard enough, it would make it easier if he could sleep in a bed that he recognised.
"Hey Buddy" Buck yawned, wrapping his arms around Chris's head.
Buck had been sleeping on the sofa, he felt guilty sleeping in Eddies bed. Eddie should be here now, not Buck.
"Pancakes?" He asked Chris as they both begun the walk to the kitchen.
"Can we have chocolate chips in it this time?" Chris smiled at Buck, and his heart melted right there and then. He knew Christopher had the biggest heart; even after everything that was currently happen Chris still had a wide smile on his face.
Buck nodded back to Chris as he rooted around in the cupboards, trying to find the ingredients for pancakes- there was no chocolate chips, so he would have to cut up a bar of chocolates into small chunks.
As Buck began to mix the batter, he listened to Christopher's stories about his new friend, Jaxon, and how cool he was.
"And then he just got up and left!" Chris excitedly raved on as he was chopping up the chocolate bar- he had insisted on helping, and Buck didn't want him to burn himself near the oven. "And then the teacher said-"
Christopher's story was interrupted by his shriek, and then by his sobs. Bucks instincts kicked in, and he hurried over to Christopher to console him and see what had happened. As he stared down at the blood splattered over the counter, his mind went to two years ago. The sound as the bullet hit Eddies shoulder. Blood splashing on Bucks face. Staring into each others eyes as they contemplated what had happened. Eddie collapsing.
Buck dropped the spatula as he rushed over, inspecting Christopher's hand. There was a slice across his middle and ring finger, and Buck was thankful that Chris wouldn't need to go to the hospital- that still didn't stop his heart racing.
"Chris, it's gonna be okay, you don't even need to go the hospital" Buck whispered to him, placing a kiss on his forehead. He didn't know if that crossed any barriers, but Christopher needed comforting and Eddie wasn't here.
"Yes I do! Look at my fingers!" Christopher screamed back, more tears forming at his eyes.
"Christopher, I know it hurts really bad but I'll get hen to check it out and-"
"You don't know what's best for me! You're not my dad!" Christopher screamed back, and tears had begun forming at Bucks eyes now.
You're not my dad.
Christopher's fingers were still bleeding, so Buck got out a first aid kit and began wrapping a bandage around Christopher's fingers.
Your not my dad.
"Hen" Buck had called just as a precaution, he'd rather be safer and make sure there wasn't an infection or that Christopher actually needed to go to the hospital. "Can you come round? It's Christopher."
