All Buck heard was a splash, and then there was a beautiful baby girl sitting on the side, dangerously close to the lake edge. Buck presumed that she was a girl from the pink bow hanging from her soaking hair."Shit, Chim!" Buck shouted before running over to the girl. She was unconscious, and Buck knew Chimney had more experience in dealing with infant injuries.
"Kinda busy here Buck!" Chim screamed back "Your gonna have to do it on your own!"
As Buck glanced over, he remembered that less than a minute before, him and Chim had been attempting to cut a pregnant woman from her seatbelt and save her life. But now, he had to save this little girls life. He remembered back in his probie days seeing hen perform CPR on an infant, a little boy who had been knocked out and wasn't breathing. It was around 30 chest compressions, and then two quick breaths. Buck repeated those exact actions as he remembered them, counting in his head.
...29, 30 Two quick breaths then repeat.. 1,2,3,4,5
A demanding howl erupted from her, and buck smiled widely. He lifted her up and put her over his shoulder, before looking around to see if her parents were nearby. There was nobody nearby. He looked down at the lake and-
Oh god. He felt like being sick.
The last thing Buck expected was to bark out in laughter. Mostly because, there was no way, no fucking way that god could screw him over anymore. Still holding the mysterious baby girl, he went to the lakes edge, reached down and grabbed the necklace that was floating in the lake.
It wasn't 'just a necklace'.
It was the St. Christopher medallion that Eddie always wore around his neck. The one that he never left the house without. The one that, the only time that Eddie forgot to wear it, made Eddie have a mental breakdown, and Buck had to drive him home to retrieve it. He remembered it clear as day: Buck rubbing Eddies back in a circular motion to keep him from sobbing. Eddie latching him arms around bucks neck, practically laying on top of him. They never spoke about that day ever again.
He didn't know how long he had been standing there, the medallion enclosed in his hand. It must've been at least a couple of minutes because Chim had came over asking buck if he sorted the issue with the baby. Buck didn't reply.
"Buck? are you okay? Is the girl okay?" Chim asked, before seeing what Buck was holding so tightly. "Hey isn't that Eddies m-"
Chim didn't have a chance to finish before Buck quickly gave Chim the wailing baby and took deep breaths. He ignored Chims screams and the constant cracks of lightning as he plunged in the icy water, the medallion still held tightly in his hand. He didn't expect to see all the bodies plastered on the lake floor as he got closer. The last thing he expected was to see Eddie as one of those people, the first thing that came to Bucks mind made him feel like throwing up. Eddie looked like he was dead. He was pale, and his lips were blue. Blue.
Buck didn't have a second to lose, so he ventured down, close enough so he could grab Eddie by the wrist. Swimming up was the hardest; Buck knew that time was of the essence, so the quicker the better. He swam until he felt like collapsing, like his legs were about give in. But he made it to the surface, hauling Eddie over the side then pulling himself over. He saw the team nearby, Chim, Hen and Bobby.
"Everyone, get everyone you can find. There's plenty more, Bobby come with me I'm getting them all, Chim, hen look after-" Buck echoed out, sobs constantly interrupting him. He didn't even realise he was crying until he spoke. He was quickly interrupted by Bobby's serious yet comforting voice.
"Buck, your not- your not going back in there, your in to deep. Breathe with me"
"No-no you don't understand, I need to go back in there, there's plenty more, Or at least let me work on Eddie, I know his blood type and- I can-I can"
