When he first got the call from the hospital, Buck got in his car and began to drive. Not to the hospital, not to Maddies, not even to Bobbys. He just drove. He passed his loft, passed Taylor's apartment, passed Christopher's school god knows how many times. He just couldn't go to the hospital.
Eddie was awake. He was alive and breathing and healthy, and Buck was glad. After two weeks of pure hell, two weeks of Buck scared for his best friend, two weeks of Chris basically ignoring him, Eddie was awake. And that scared Buck.
Because what now? What happened now? How was he supposed to go back to the hospital and pretend that him and Eddie were only friends. Pretended that he didn't crave that boy every god damn day.
And how was he supposed to go to the hospital bed, and pretend that Eddie hadn't done this to himself. Eddie could swim, he was a better swimmer than Buck was by miles. And if he had began to run out of air, Eddie would've just clung to the pavement side. But he didn't. Eddie had done this to himself, and it just hurt Buck. It just pained him that Eddie would ever think that about himself- because Buck would tell anyone Eddie was fucking perfect, that half the time Buck was jealous of Eddie.
That's why he couldn't go to the hospital. Atleast not now. Buck just couldn't pretend. He was too tired of pretending.
Instead, he entered the familiar number in his phone.
"Hello? Buck, what happened? Is everything okay?" Maddie questioned, her instincts kicking in.
"Mads, everything's okay," Buck sniffled- he hadn't even realised he had been crying "Just tell everyone that Eddies awake and alive and-"
"Eddies awake?" Chimney interrupted, "Put him on the phone!"
"I'm- I'm not with him right now, I'll probably drop by later or something."
"Buck, is everything okay? Are you in the car? Where are you driving to?" Maddie was back on the phone, and he could hear the worry in her voice.
"Mads, I'm fine, I just need to clear my head."
"Just go back home. Or come here, we'll go to the hospital together. I just want you to be with someone, I know you've been over your head ever since the accident-"
"It wasn't an accident. I- I just need to clear my head. I'll meet you at the hospital soon. Love you." Buck hastily replied back, declining the call before Maddie could reply.
Buck took a few deep breaths, and rang the second number. Just to hear his voice.
"This is Edmundo Diaz, sorry I couldn't come to the phone right now- I'm most likely with my son or Buck, maybe ring him instead."
Buck laughed at that, in between the quiet sobs. He found it funny the tone of Eddie voice in the voicemail, how annoyed he sounds. Buck remembered that day, it was a couple days after Christmas. Eddie had his new phone, and Buck insisted on giving him a voicemail. You could hear the little giggles from Chris in the background of it.
Buck entered the number again, and again; over and over thinking that Eddie would pick up. But in reality, he done it just to hear the sound of his voice. Eddies voice calmed him down in a way that was unexplainable.
Eventually he ended up parked, outside the hospital. He recognised Bobbys truck, Maddie and Chimneys Range Rover, and Karen's car.
