Eddie woke up in the hospital bed, flowers on every surface of the room. He wiped his hands over his eyes, confused as to why he was here. Eddie began to press the button next to him, assuming it was a button that would bring a nurse over.

"Edmundo Diaz, I'm glad to see your awake." the nurse walked in, a wide smile on her face. "You consumed multiple injuries when you hit your head-"

"Hit my head?"

The nurse sighed before continuing. "Slight memory loss might fog up your brain in the next couple of days. You were on a call when you had a fall, but don't worry, it was only a-"

Eddie stop listening to her, to confused to. There was a nagging feeling, a feeling that he-

He should be dead. Drowning in a lake. Not here.

"Mr Diaz?" The nurse- Alexia, the nametag read- asked. "You've only been out a couple of hours, but a very eager Howard Han is here to pick you up. Something about a party? You'll stay here for a couple more hours, just for any irregularities, and then we'll get ready to discharge you."

Maybe he wasn't dead. Maybe god gave him a second chance, another hope. Eddie wasn't religious in the slightest, but right now he could pretend. He gave a smile to the nurse and nodded. He could pretend.

A couple of hours passed, and before he knew it, Eddie was being brought to Athena and Bobby's, to 'sign some papers.' Chimney was lying, it was obvious what this was- a party. But right now, he wanted to be at home, with his son.

"God, we need to start protecting you more. This is you 4th or 5th hospital visit, and your second time nearly dying." Chimney laughed, and Eddie scoffed in a reply.

"I think 'near death experience' is a bit of an overstatement, Chimney."

"You wouldn't say that if you saw what we all saw. Your head was lying in a pile of blood, Eddie. It wasn't a massive puddle, but still. For a moment there, we thought we might've lost you."

"Hopefully it'll be my last then," Eddie replied, not wanting this to take a serious turn. "What actually happened? At the call?"

"Oh yeah, I forgot you might have memory loss for a couple of days. There was this man, wanting to jump off a roof. You were gonna sneak up behind him to clip a harness on his jeans, as a precaution. Guy saw you and got all spooked, pushed you behind him before you could clip it on. You head hit the gravel, hard, right next to a parked car." Chimney finished, gripping the steering will tightly.

The 118 really was his family.

"And the guy- on the roof?" Eddie asked, curiosity overwhelming him.

"He jumped off after."

"Dios"

Eventually they arrived at Athena and Bobby's, and Chimney was practically buzzing with excitement. Chimney opened the door, with a chorus of "Surprise!" greeting Eddie. He still pretended to be surprised: it was better that way. He scanned the crowd to see Buck and Christopher, but to no familiarities. He greeted everyone with either a hug or a nod, used that his parents weren't here- at least his sisters had bothered to make the journey.

"Adrianna! Sophia, god I've missed youse," Eddie smiled, hugging his sisters. He hadn't seen them in 1, maybe 2 years.

"It's about time you come to El Paso! You haven't been there since-" Sophia begun, before being interrupted by adrianna.

"Not now, not here Sofia."

"Shit. Yeah, anyway," Sophia continued, ignoring Eddies stares. "I'm engaged to Jackson, finally."

"Congrats, Sophia. When i meet him, I'll be sure to tell him the story of when you were six and-"

"Eds, you may of just nearly died but if you tell him that story I swear to god I'll-"

"Okay, let's go Soph," Adrianna rolled her eyes before steering her sister in the other direction. Eddie took another quick glance around the room for Buck and Eddie, with no surprise, and decided to just try to forget about it.

"Chimney told you, didn't hear." Hen laughed, greeting Eddie with a tight squeeze.

"Surprisingly not." Eddie chuckled back. "Hey, why aren't Buck and Christopher here?"

Eddie couldn't help but ask, something just felt wrong. Like a sinking feeling, like something was wrong. He could tell his intentions were right were Hen widened her eyes slightly, and began breathing in slowly.

"Eddie" Hen whispered softly, holding his arms. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, why? Well, I still want to know where my son is, Hen."

"Shit, I forgot about the memory loss thing. I-"

"Hen, where are they?"

"Just leave it for now, Eddie."

Eddie refused to ignore how weird Hen was acting, or how she had begun to gather tears in her eyes.

"Where is Buck and Christopher." Eddie raised his voice, attracting attention. Mostly everybody was looking at them, at Hens teary eyes and Eddies shaking hands.

"Fuck, Eddie they-"

"They drowned, Eddie."

Bobby had moved himself in between Hen and Eddie, his back facing her. Bobby listened to Eddies confused face before continuing, "There was a tsunami-"

"Yeah, and they both survived it. They- they both survived it, only with some cuts and bruises. Buck thought Christopher had died but he didn't. And right now they're probably going to burst in with a cake with a stupid design on it-"

Eddie had raised his voice louder, and whispers surrounded him, but he easily tuned them out. He was concentrating on the way the tears moved down his cheeks and how badly he was hyperventilating.

"They drowned, four years ago, in the tsunami. Eddie, you need to-"

Eddie refused to listen, beginning to sob. Tears that easily reached the floor, and sounds, violent, heavy sounds which forced its way out of his mouth.

Too much shock over took him, and it felt so much harder to breathe- like there was weight on hism lungs.

Maybe that was when he leaned over, a hand on his heart, and died for a second time.

And that time, he hoped that he could wake up next to Buck, or with Christopher sleeping in the room next-door. Because Eddie couldn't handle to be in a world without his son or Buck.
